The Labour Party candidate in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, has accepted the outcome of then election.
He therefore congratulated the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, on his victory at the poll.
Akinbade, however, said he did not regret partaking in the election as LP’s standard bearer.
In a statement by the Director, Media, of his campaign organisation, Mr. Kayode Oladeji, the LP candidate commended the electoral process.
He said, “By and large, the whole process was fair and I congratulate the winner, Governor Rauf Aregbesola. In every contest, there must be a winner. However, I must let us know that my head remains unbowed because I don’t regret anything. Some lessons have been learnt and I thank my supporters for their doggedness.”
Akinbade, however, decried the fact that the exercise was characterised by financial inducement. He, therefore, condemned the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party for allegedly confusing his supporters and admirers across the state, by claiming that he had directed his supporters to vote for the APC and the PDP candidates.
He said, “Imagine the Director General of Arebesola Campaign Organisation, Professor Sola Adeyeye, and Diran Odeyemi of the PDP, claiming separately on the social media in the morning of the election that I directed my supporters to vote Aregbesola and Omisore.
‘’This confused my supporters across the state, who bombarded me with calls. This went viral and caused confusion.”
Akinbade, who frowned at the development, described the tactics employed by the two parties as fraudulent, saying it only showed the desperation of the two parties.
“Now that Aregbesola has emerged, one can only advised that he settles down for real business of governance, by divorcing it from politics,” he said. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
