I’ll lead Nigerians to defeat terror - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday evening vowed that he would lead Nigerians to defeat the Boko Haram sect that has been unleashing terror on parts of the country.

“Fellow citizens, we will defeat terror and I will lead Nigerians to achieve this,” Jonathan declared at a fundraiser where over N60bn was raised for the Victims Support Fund.

The event held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja was meant to raise fund to provide relief and succour for all those who have been adversely affected by terrorism and insurgency in the country.

The President said the fact that his administration set up the fund did not mean that it had accepted that terrorism had come to stay.

He said the Federal Government would not allow evil to prevail over good in the country.

He said although the country was passing through some challenging and tough times, these times would not last.

The President declared, “The fact that we are setting up a victims support fund does not mean we have accepted that terrorism is here to stay. No! Never!

“Rather, this is just one of the short-term measures on our overall strategy against the enemies of peace and progress.

“We will not allow evil to overcome good. No! We will not!! I understand perfectly that millions of Nigerians are worried about the threat of terror in our country.

“It is a new phenomenon that took us virtually unawares. I never once thought that I would, in my lifetime, hear of Nigerians strapping bombs to themselves and blowing up innocent people. We would have saw sworn that it is impossible!”

Jonathan said Nigeria would come out of the current challenges a tougher and better nation.

  4. It is only a fool who will bcos of BH tell GEJ to step down or abuse him in any way. We have to support him. We are not wiser than the council of state that enjoined all Nigerians to support him.

  5. Oga GEJ, that na old story! You can only terrorize electorates in Opposition states to 'win' elections by deploying all our troops to harass voters while you cannot do same to defeat BH.

  8. Mr. President, your actions never show that you are ready to fight Boko Haram not to talk of defeating the sect.
You have time going around causing troubles in the peaceful states of the country campaigning for PDP candidates. But, you never thought it is your duty as father of the affected communities by simple visit.

There is no point saying this out. We all know that your interest is on 2015 elections. I wish you tell the Nigerians what are your achievements beside sponsoring impeachments in those peaceful states. The most important point is Nigerians need reliable leader that understand our problem which is corruption. And since you do not see the corruption as sickness affecting our development, allow another person to fight it head on.

  9. If Jonathan has been able to perform as he has done under all these pressure, I wonder what would have happened if he got all the support he needed. I'm suspecting the participants in past regimes are part of the ongoing terror to distract Jonathan from giving his best. No wonder OBJ has been clamouring to be allowed to step into negotiations, how come he knows whw & who are BH? IBB,Buhari,Shagari etc are passive & paying lip service to the whole issue. You people can bomb the whole world,we'll always support Jonathan!
