As part of proactive measures to contain the possible outbreak Ebola, the Abia State Government has designated some hospital wards across the state to handle patients with symptoms related to the disease.
While addressing journalists in Umuahia at an event marking the World Breastfeeding Week, the state Commissioner for Health, Okechukwu Ogah, said the ministry had put all hospitals in the state on red alert on Ebola.
He said although no case of Ebola had been reported in the state, the government was not leaving anything to chances, as it had also commenced intensive public sensitisation on both the dangers and preventive measures to keep the pandemic off the shores of the state.

Ogah appealed to residents not to panic but to watch out for the symptoms of the ailment and promptly report any case of outbreak for rapid intervention to prevent escalation.
Meawhile, the Federal Capital Territory Administration has called on Abuja residents to be vigilant in the face of the Ebola hemorrhagic fever threat.
It advised residents to report any suspicious case to a health facility nearest to them.
A statement by the Head, Public Relations Unit, Badaru Yakasai, quoted the Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr. Demola Onakomaiya, as saying this during an emergency meeting he held with the management staff of the secretariat.
Onakomaiya stated that even though Ebola was a severe disease with high fatality, it was also an infection that could be controlled with personal hygiene such as hand washing with soap. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
