A group of youths opposed to the removal of the former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, clashed with others who were jubilating over his ouster in Guyuk, the country home of the former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Kobis Ari Thimnu.
The clash, which left several people injured and property especially vehicles worth thousands of naira destroyed, occurred at the popular 2-4-7 Plaza area of the town on Thursday.
Our correspondent gathered that trouble started when a group of youths, who were celebrating the governor’s removal from office, taunted those opposed to his removal through songs, dance and gestures considered offensive.
An eyewitness, Mr. Mlik Kolou, said, “Trouble started when those in favour of the impeachment were celebrating with songs of praise and those opposed to the impeachment tried to prevent them.
“The situation was aggravated when soldiers deployed to the area to maintain law and other descended on them. Shop owners who operated at the plaza hurriedly close their shops for fear of being vandalised by the hoodlums, who may capitalise on the situation to loot their wares.”
There were no reports of arrests as of the time of filing this report. However, the situation later became calm with people going about their normal businesses.
It will be recalled that the Adamawa State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, removed the state governor after adopting the report of the seven-man panel, set up by the former Acting Chief Judge of the State, Ambrose Mammadi.
Mammadi set up the panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari.
A former Speaker of the House, Ahmadu Fintiri, has since been sworn in as acting governor.
He is expected to act for 90 days within which a governorship election is expected to be held to elect a new governor.
This is without prejudice to the court action which the opposition All Progressives Congress said it would embark on to challenge Nyako’s removal. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

What were they doing when the plot was nursed, hatched before it was finally executed. They should have acted then may be the Governor would have been saved. However, they need to be cautioned because if the allegations against the Governor were right, then they have no say.
ReplyDeleteOver and above all, the did has been done and they should seek legitimate redress. May God help Adamawa state and save Nigeria
