Police uncover eight-bedroom kidnappers’ den in Imo

The Imo State Police Command, assisted by some vigilante members, have undiscovered a kidnapper’s underground eight-bedroom den in a deserted building.

Channels Television reported on Saturday that the hideout, located in Umuchima Village, Okwu Autonomous Community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, was used by suspected kidnappers to harbour their victims.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, while parading the suspects, explained that the underground hideout, with eight bedrooms, was discovered through intelligence network and collaboration of the vigilante men.

He said, “it took the police over three hours from Owerri, the state capital, through the thick bush and untarred road to get to the kidnappers’ den.”

The villagers, who spoke to journalists, said they were neither aware of the underground den nor the criminal activities that were carried out in the compound until a kidnapped victim who escaped from the dungeon in the middle of the night narrated his ordeal.

They explained that the statue in front of the building was that of the owner of the building, one Mr. Simeon Mpieri, whom they alleged had died since 1990.

The police commissioner further revealed that the buildings would be confiscated and demolished. He also said the command would do its best to rid the state of of kidnapers.

In June, the state government had given directives that all abandoned properties or uncompleted buildings would be taken over by the government, in order to ensure that those places are not turned to dens for criminals.

  6. Whetin Igbo has to do with it is that Money is the god most Igbos worship. You need to associate closely with them or simply attend a core Igbo function and you know how far. Everybody love money but the separation to acquire is what sets the Igbos apart. If you ate an honest man without much money,to an average Igbo man is useless and even a mad man is regarded better, but rich wicked dubious man is worshipped like god. It is sad but tat is the reality cos even elders and pastors that supposed to be the moral bearers are the ones propagating the get rich quick at all cost. Pastors copied this prosperity and riches gospel and toot it to another level. Most of these prosperity gospel without salvation messages are propagated mostly by Igbo Pastors
Apologies to numerous good Igbo pastors and friends.

  10. I am shocked to hear people mentioning Igbos and forget so soon about the Ibadan story; Suka village and Abeokuta ritualist dens.
It is rather pathetic and unfortunate that most Nigerians from the West can not stop being tribalistic no matter what. Can we stop all these name calling and concentrate on what will better the lots of most Nigerians and find a way out of these quaqmire of troubles that have befallen our Country, Nigeria.
The love for riches and money knows no bound. As a matter of fact aspiration for wealth and its creation should be a way to eradicate poverty in our land. Those who are entreprenurial should step forward and the love to create rich for others should be encouraged.
So you can not create wealth when you do not love money. Because you may not know the value in making money. My humble submission. Alexis
