Nigerian politicians should join hands against terrorism – Presidency

Prof. Rufai Alkali, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, has called on political office holders not to politicise acts of insurgency in the country.

He made the call on Friday in Abuja during a familiarisation visit to the headquarters of Goodluck Support Group in Abuja.

Alkali said it was time all hands were on deck to address the spate of terrorism in the country instead of politicising it.

“It’s high time the nation’s citizens joined hands in the fight against terrorism,” Alkali said.

“This administration is deeply committed in its effort to restore lasting peace to the nation and bring terrorism to an end.”

He said General Mohammadu Buhari’s escape from Wednesday’s attack in Kaduna had reduced the nation’s “trauma over the attacks”.

He noted that the government and people of the nation find the death of innocent Nigerians in the various attacks painful.

“But recent attack in Kaduna would have been more painful if Gen Buhari had been killed in the terrible attack,” he said.

He expressed his condolence to the families of the victims and prayed for speedy recovery of those wounded in the various attacks in the country.

Alkali urged members of the public to give maximum support to security operatives, and the media to report positive developments in the nation.

Alkali also urged the group to continue to support President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP. The special adviser, who announced his assumption of duty as the National Coordinator of the group, promised to work for the victory of the party in the upcoming 2015 general election.
