Minna Magistrate's Court on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old-man, Umar Bello, to three months imprisonment for theft and criminal breach.
The accused was arraigned in court on two counts of theft and escaping from lawful custody contrary to sections 287 and 173 of the penal code law.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Suleiman Mohammed, told the court that one Gambo Maliki of Kadna Village reported the matter to the Police on July 4.
He said the accused, a resident of Kuta Road, Minna, stole Maliki's motorcycle valued at N110, 000 at Tunga Goro and was arrested by the Police.
Mohammed said the accused also escaped from police custody after his initial arrest before he was re-arrested.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
The convict told the court that he stole the black Jincheng motorcycle to fast track his wedding plans.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court to try him summarily in line with section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
In her ruling, Magistrate Hafsat Abdullahi, ordered the accused to pay a fine of N10,000 for the first charge or serve a three-month prison term in the event of a default.
Abdullahi also ordered him to pay N5,000 for the second charge or serve three months imprisonment in the event of a default, which is to run concurrently with the first sentence. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
