Gunmen abduct NURTW boss in Abia

Abia State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers , Chief Sunny Nwakodo, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.
The NURTW boss was said to be driving to his Ndume country home at the outskirts of Umuahia , the state capital, Thursday evening, when the incident took place.
He was said to have been trailed by his abductors who suddenly double- crossed him as he was driving to his village at the close of work.
Confirming the incident to newsmen the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna , said the whereabouts of the NURTW boss remained unknown as no contact had been established with his abductors.
According to him it was not yet clear what the motives of those behind the action was .
Police however assured that efforts were being intensified to track down the perpetrators, while appealing to members of the public to volunteer any useful information that could lead to the rescue of the victim.
According to police, pockets of violent crimes witnessed occasionally in some parts of the state in the recent times did not mean the return of the era of kidnapping which almost crippled the state for the better part of 2010.
He assured that security agents in the state with the assistance of the state government were making spirited efforts to ensure the safety of all residents, vowing that criminals will not be allowed to return to the state.
