The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria on Monday raised the alarm over plans by the Presidency to clampdown on the Nigerian Medical Association and privatise all hospitals owned by the Federal Government.
Doctors in Government hospitals under the aegis of NMA have been on nationwide strike for the past one month over alleged breach of agreement reached by both parties.
The association said information reaching its secretariat revealed that if the proposal sails through, soldiers would be drafted to secure all the medical institutions while para-military medical professionals would be deployed to perform the role of Doctors.
The President of MDCAN, Dr. Steve Oluwole, in a statement obtained by journalists in Abuja wondered whether the replacements would be better alternatives to roles performed by Doctors.
He said, “In the event that the Federal Government tows this course of action, the military will be deployed to guard the medical institutions with military and para-military medical professionals rendering services in the mean time.
“All public health institutions will be privatised. Then, the ‘no work no pay’ principle will be enforced; Doctors who are interested will be protected to resume duties while new ones will be employed to take their place.”
Several calls and text messages by to the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, for response on the issues were not replied. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

I that will bring solution I think it is better. No more human feelings even among "doctors" again
ReplyDeleteI hope no one will complain when the paramedics give us wrong treatment Why can't the govt always keep their side of agreement That's his they did with ASUU and students were at home for more than 6 months APC is giving them this ideas so that they will fail lol
DeleteI believe doctors also have rights. We all fought for ASUU because Govt reneged on a signed agreement. Why can't we support the doctors to get their right? The country will not move forward if we can't be consistent.
ReplyDeleteWhy are doctors afraid of privatization? Is it because they will no longer be able to collect salary in govt hospitals whithout working while actually working in their own private clinics? No private hospital
ReplyDeleteWill allow that . Also they know even what they are being paid by govts cannot be matched by private hospitals. Lesson: pride goes before a fall.
Govt has just woken up from their slumber. This policy should be implemented without delay. What we have in Nigeria are not doctors but shylocks. They are the most inhuman creatures i have ever seen. You need to encounter them and you will wonder if they were trained in hell. Absolutely wicked! Let the Garki Hospital Public/Private Partnership model be implemented across board and lets see if our doctors will not sit-up. All they care for is money instead of saving lives. ASUU strike has less impact on the life of the masses than Doctors strike. There are instances where doctors will sit and watch a patient die just bcos they have no immediate cash to pay for consultancy and sundry charges demanded by the doctors. Do you think such ppl deserve mercy at all? Flush them out quickly please so that we can have better professionals that can be held responsible for any form of misconduct. Meanwhile, let govt put up viable and compulsory health insurance for the masses to cater for likely hike in medical services in behalf of the poor and less priviledged.
ReplyDeleteabout time. Enough of this arrogance from physicians. Despite all the pamperings and concessions they receive, they remain insatiable. Nonsense.
