Confab: Northern Delegates Reject Additional State For South-East

Northern delegates to the ongoing National Conference have kicked against the creation of an additional state from the south-east zone of the country.
The Conference, on Thursday, approved the creation of 18 additional states across the country as a way of meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
The delegates also unanimously accepted the recommendation for the creation of an additional state for the south-east zone to put it at par with other zones of the country.
But delegates from the north have rejected it, saying, “There was no sense in creating a state without population and land mass among factors being put for recognition”.
The spokesman of the group, Mr Anthony Sani, told our correspondent in Kaduna that “the Northern Delegates Forum is not opposed to the creation of additional states provided they meet the requirements set up by the creating authority”.
“What is disagreeable to Northern Forum is the demand by south-east that a state be given without meeting set criteria, but on equality without equity.
“We believe states as federating units, apart from allaying the fear of minority and giving them a say in the management of the Nigerian project, are not strong enough to undermine the centre. Hence, states as federating units, if properly managed, can further the cause of a strong and united Nigeria.
“And since they are created for human beings and land mass has something to do with their development, we see no wisdom in excluding population and land mass among the factors to be considered in the creation exercise.
“In a diverse society like Nigeria, there must be standard ways of governing the country and not to pander to agitations which would always be there anyway,” he said. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Why this northerners are so selfish like this they have many local government in the north than those who has many mineral resourses and they were still shouting i think division is the only solution to the problm on ground
ReplyDeleteWhy not we divide this country?this northerners are full of shit
ReplyDeleteThe optinance of the north elites and the ignorance of their high number of poor masses is why we are in this mess. Enemies of progress
ReplyDelete100% correct, this people are pulling Nigeria backward intensionally, they like to oppose good things that is going to other regions, why? Even when the resources is nit from their place, yet they will be the first to oppose everything, yet their elites are based in Lagos with a whole lots of properties. They own most of the oil blocks allocated to themselves during military era, also, indiscrimate creation of states in the north during military era, yet they are not contentend. Nigeria need to be restructured and things need be balanced for all regions in peace & fairness...
ReplyDeletevery useless set of fools, before they will realized what is happening, there won't be Nigeria again......Very stupit set of uncircumcized Bastards
ReplyDeletePlus can we Nig/eria this country. .
ReplyDeleteNone of the above posters counter the argument that states can't be created without landmass or the required population. Just being sentimental about the issue. The confab should drop the issue of any state creation and maintain the status quo. Period.
ReplyDeletewhat ar u trying to say Everfrank? are you trying to say there are no landmass and population in south east for new states? If so then you are the one being sentimental or rather selfish
ReplyDeleteThis Everfrank is very foolish. I was in the North for 15 years. They created Local Governments where there are no people at all. What is a landmass without population? Unlike the North, people are living together in the East with large numbers of population. It is not so in the North. It may take you 100 kilometers to get another village in the North. And so the Army leaders of Northern stock created States and Local Governments for empty lands in the name of landmass in the North. Now let us face facts, is it not the South Easterners that make up the so-called population of the North? They want separation. While they are enjoying the oil that they dont have they want to become stumbling block for Igbos because they are afraid of the Igbos. You cant succeed.
ReplyDeleteI think the mistake had already been done by joining us together and named us nigeria. we are not in any way have any thing in common. what ojuku saw many years ago is manifesting. i think we need to seperate from this northeners that called themselves haram
ReplyDeleteIf the 18 additional States proposed by the Confab is approved it would give us 54 States in all. Given the 6 geopolitical zones, this should give 9 States per zone. Presently, a zone has 8 States, some have 6 each, while the South East has 5. Let the zone that has 8 be given one more State; those with 6 be given 3 more each, and the South East be given 4. Landmass as a criterion for State creation is a smokescreen to give the North more States than the South. When Gowon introduced States creation in 1967, he made it equal between North and South until a biased Muritala tilted the balance in 1975 in favour of the North. The Confab should correct that imbalance.
