Adamawa Speaker, Umaru Fintiri, sworn in as Acting Governor

The Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, has been sworn into office as the new Acting Governor following the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako and the resignation of his deputy.

Mr. Fintiri was sworn in by the President of the Customary Court in the State at the council chambers of Government House, Yola.

In a short remark after his swearing in, the new acting governor promised to pay the civil servants salaries the outstanding two months being owed them by the state government.

Part of the allegations against former governor Nyako was the alleged cut in civil servants salaries for the month of June.

Civil servants were also not paid for July because the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, froze the accounts of the state government at the beginning of impeachment process against Messrs. Nyako and Ngilari; though the later resigned to stave off impeachment.

Mr. Fintiri will hold office for a maximum of 3 months during which time the electoral commission, INEC, is expected to conduct a fresh governorship election.

  2. this is strictly and clearly a pdp unnecessary use of power why is it that nobody has said or done anything against Benue state Governor Gabriel suswam who has not paid primary school teachers for the past eight months or so ? Obviously because its a pdp governed state and in adamawa only one month of salary cut from civil servants has resulted in impeachment of the governor. God save us from the hands of thugs who have come to destroy pdp and nigeria @ large.

    2. Anonymous 9:49, Its a shame that a former Youth Corps member could not write a full statement with good English and you call yourself a graduate? Do not concern yourself in politics but rather concentrate to improve your education.

  3. Should the President of the country then be impeached for the salary of federal civil servants being delayed? These are self-serving actions and a show of the immaturity in us. Impeachment is a vary serious matter and should only be reserved for the most serious matters. Instead what we see in Nigeria is a bunch of kids who call themselves lawmakers deciding to impeach their governor after a night of wastefullness in a beer parlor. The worst thing is that the nation sits idle as this type of thing goes on. When shall Nigerians wake up from their slumber and stop this childish rascality that is destroying our nation?

  5. Find out why he was impeached. The write only says salary cuts was one of the grievances. Even Nyako said Jonathan has no hand in the impeachment.

  8. Former Governor Nyako wrote a very controversial letter that is capable of tearing this nation apart, I think in my opinion as a great benefactor of the Nigerian state, he should be focused on those things that should unite this country and not the contrary.Since that letter was written, I just knew that he went too far and his time was only numbered.
Any way wish him well in his future endeavors.

  9. Guys are talking of misapproprietion of fund as a small crime that shoudn't warrant his impeachment, what about him accusing the president of the federal republic of commiting genocide without any proof? Don't u think its treason?

  10. always find it funny how when it happens to the opposition party it is called justice but when the same thing happens to the ruling party it is an outrage. we have opened a dangerous new phase in our so called democracy were you can be removed from an elected post on a mere whim this does not bode well.
