The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.- Gen. Kenneth Minimah, on Friday urged officers and men of the Nigerian Army to be vigilant and to observe high level security standards.
Minimah made the appeal at the end of his maiden familiarisation tour of facilities of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army from 22-25 July.
“I urge everyone to embrace a very high level of security, vigilance, barracks security, amongst and within ourselves; we must be our brothers’ keeper and we must keep ourselves too.
“If you find anyone behaving in a very suspicious manner, be it in the street, in the town, or in the barracks, stop, question that individual.
“You don’t leave it that nothing concerns you; something must concern you.
“Barracks sanctity, barracks security, cannot be left to God; it must be we; it is we that will protect the barracks.
“It is we that will protect the city; it is we that will protect the nation; the normal Nigerian of leaving everything to God should not be there in security.
“We must man the element and ingredient of the security apparatus and mechanisms of our nation, of our army and of our barracks.”
NAN reports that among facilities he inspected in Lagos were the Directorate of Islamic Affairs and the Catholic and Protestant Chaplaincies.
The others were the Nigerian Army Small Scale Drug Manufacturing Unit at the Headquarters, the renovated Brigade Complex and the quarter-guard at the Ikeja Cantonment.
The Chief of Army Staff also interacted with officers and men of Bonny, Ikeja and Ojo Cantonments. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
