The command said that the action became imperative after discovering that they had become targets of terrorist attacks especially as the FIFA World Cup takes off.
In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Dominic Esin, the police warned members of the public, particularly owners of football viewing centers and football fans, that there was a total ban on football viewing centers in every nook and cranny of the state during the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup
The statement said, “This precautionary measure is aimed at forestalling warnings of impending attacks on these viewing centers by any person or group of persons and to secure an atmosphere of peace and security in the state.”
The State Police command strongly advises football fans to stay away from such centers or watch all the matches of the Brazil 2014 FIFA world cup in their respective houses.”
The statement added that anyone who violated the order, which takes effect immediately, would face the full wrath of the law.
In relates development, authorities of Barakin Ladi Local Government Area has banned the operation of football viewing centres in the locality.
A statement by the Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Loman, said the council had received intelligence reports that some hoodlums wanted to take advantage of the world football fiesta to foment trouble in the already volatile local government.
He therefore warned football fans to watch the tournament in the comfort of their homes and avoid crowded places.
Football viewing centres had become the targets of terrorist attacks in Plateau State in recent times.

Why can't they figure out a way to make sure the locations are secure, versus shutting them down. Why must we always act like tyrrants with no brains? This is an important world event, and Nigerians love soccer. They shoudn't be denied this simple joy that only comes around once every four years. Police should use their brains, not just their batons.
