No fewer than 40 people were killed in an inter tribal sectarian strife, which engulfed Wukari town of Taraba state. Several others we also said to have been wounded while many houses were razed to the ground.
Our correspondent gathered that trouble started in the early hours of Sunday when some people suspected to be Muslim youths descended on the town killing anybody on sight and burning houses.
Security sources said there has been rumour of attack in Wukari since June 10, 2014 thus raising tention and apprehension among residents.
It was also gathered that the trouble started when some youths set ablaze a telephone center close to the CRCN Church in Wukari. The killing was extended to Takum and Domga.
A security source said that in addition to those who died, over 100 people were wounded and receiving medical attention in several hospitals in the violence.
However, Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Joseph Kwaji, who confirmed the incident, said that only 15 bodies have so far been recovered.

He said the police have been able to bring the situation under control, while are being intensified to arrest the perpetrators.
Meanwhile Senator representing Taraba South, Mr. Emmanuel Bwachs, has asked his people to remain calm and report any suspicious movements or characters to security agencies.
Bwacha, who spoke to our correspondent on telephone deplored the renewed killings in his constituency and urged security agencies to unmask the intention of the perpetrators and their sponsors and collaborators
He said, “I believe that God will expose the sponsors of these incessant attacks or whoever is responsible or sponsoring them.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
