"ORDERS FROM ABOVE": APC Governors barred from travelling to Ekiti

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm that its Governors are being prevented by security agencies apparently acting on ”orders from above” from travelling to Ado-Ekiti for the party’s final campaign on Friday for the Ekiti State Governorship election on Friday.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said at least three Governors – Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano – have so far been prevented from making the trip.

It said the helicopter that was to ferry Gov. Oshiomhole from Benin to Ado-Ekiti was refused permission to take off from the Benin Airport, while the plane that was flying Gov. Kwankwanso to Akure was denied permission to land.

According to the APC, while the plane carrying Gov. Amaechi actually landed in Akure, his convoy was stopped at the border between Ondo and Ekiti States and ordered to turn back, because he would not be allowed to reach Ado-Ekiti.

The party said while Gov. Amaechi’s convoy was being detained in order to force him to turn back, the convoys of the Ministers of Defence and Police Affairs came and were allowed to pass.

”These acts are illegal and definitely not in line with the Electoral Act, which stipulates that campaign for the election will only end at midnight on Friday.

”It also represents a manipulation of the electoral process when all the candidates will not be allowed a level playing field to campaign for the election. There is no clearer manifestation of the federal government’s allergy to free, fair, transparent and violence-free election than this,” the party said.

It condemned in the strongest terms the abuse of national institutions and the abuse of power which these actions represent, especially because only the Federal Government has control over these institutions, including the security agencies that have now become a
tool in the hands of an increasingly-desperate government of the day.

”Several months ago, we warned that Nigeria under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan was sliding into fascism and we were pilloried in certain quarters for daring to make such a statement.

Today, we have sadly been vindicated.

”Not even in the worst days of the abhorrent military dictatorship were things done this brazenly, with citizens being denied their fundamental rights of free movement, free assembly and free expression, all because of the desperation by the ruling party to win elections at all costs.

”We therefore call on all good people of Nigeria and indeed all the country’s international friends to speak out against what is happening before things get out of hand. If democratically-elected Governors could be so shabbily treated, despite the high office they occupy, what will happen to ordinary Nigerians in the hands of an increasingly-fascist government?” APC queried

    1. Anonymous 5:10, you are the big fool. Security ministers are there to do their work. The police already said they didn't want gov convoys in Elite during elections which is just hours away. Did u hear of any PDP gov going to Ekiti? You people are just pathetic. You don't want anything good to happen in Nigeria

  5. Lie Mohammed, what time of the day were they refused entry-before or after 6.00pm? Those who came before 6.00pm, were they not alllowed in. Okorocha of IMO arrived Ekiti around 1.00pm. Having said that, are these govs registered voters in Ekiti? If they have nothing reasonable doing in their States, they can monitor their loots elsewhere. They cannot be trusted with election materials. So Mr LIE, what are you up to this time around? Fool

  6. Let them remain in their respective states. Ministers of defence and police affairs could come but did they hear that PDP govs were coming to d state? Am sure their hands were not clean. In addition, if elections were to be taking place in other States of the federation, would they have left their states for anoda. I beg. Make una go sit down, birds of a feather.

  12. I have read through most of the responses to this news. I cry for Nigeria for the level of ignorance that the respondents have shown. They could not even read and understand simple english, yet they are making comments on sensitive political issues like this. Some were even saying the APC governors are not Ekiti citizens, so they should not enter Ekiti state. They did not understand that the news told them that ministers of defence and police affairs were allowed to pass, and none of them is an Ekiti citizen. Or is Obanikoro from Ekiti?

  19. I am sure that the Federal Government miss the point this time around and played to the hands of the opposition. I know that the problem of Nigeria & Nigerian cannot be solved in a day that the Governors will be in Ekiti State for campaign. I wonder the way some of the commentators in this forum reason. When did our President become a citizen of Kano State and all other states he has led PDP "rally"? I will use the quote of our Nobel Laurette that "A man that has the kind of Patience as his wife will make mistakes like Jonathan" as a parting gift.

  21. Jonathan was wrong to deny people freedom of movement. Again other governors can visit Ekiti state some other time. The Govs should simply return to their state.

  22. If there was an announcement all the while that the borders of Ekiti state will be closed 48hrs to the election by the IG,then anyone complaining of being prevented from entering the state has some explanations to make. We'll also need to know if within the stipulated period, members of their counterpart parties were let in. Moreover the entry of the minister of defence & police affairs should I suppose be in line with carrying out their duties to ensure a peaceful execution on the electoral process. I don't even know why seeking to be elected to political position should become a do or die thing if not that you guys involved are not going there to serve the people but to loot them. That's the only reason why you can kill to get there. You Nigerian politicians disgust me.

  23. These people that are fermenting trouble in this country have made arrangement to run away when the trouble spread. Imagine that Ameachi's wife and the children are not in the country, the same with Tinubu,Oshomole,Fashola,Rochas Okoroacha. Are there no good schools or houses in Nigeria where they can stay? Why is the president, Jonathan, Akpabio, Theodore Orji etc have their full family members here in Nigeria.? Dear Nigerians, do not allow these selfish and faceless people destroy our land.
