The Kano State Government said it had dispatched a delegation to Abia State to secure the release of Kano indigenes among the 486 persons arrested by security operatives recently.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Danburan Abubakar, said in Kano on Saturday that the delegation have since arrived in Abia and started discussion with the state government officials and security agents.
He said the team, led by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Idris Dambazau, was to find out the exact number of Kano indigenes among the detainees and the nature of their offences.
Mr. Abubakar said the delegation has also been directed to take care of the welfare of the indigenes among the detainees in Abia.
“We directed the team to secure their release, if they were not found guilty of any offence and bring them back home.
“We will not accept a situation where the fundamental human rights of our innocent citizens are infringed upon.
“The committee has been directed to immediately report back its findings to the government for necessary and appropriate action,’’ Mr. Abubakar said.
About 486 persons were arrested recently in Abia by security operatives.
Security sources had told NE that 87 of them are suspected to be insurgents, and are being investigated.

ReplyDeleteHypocrites!!! Today you considered the detention of suspects an infringement of fundamental human rights. The purported objective of Boko Haram group to compulsorily subject Nigerians to islamic and sharia government isn t an infringement on the fundamental rights of our innocent citizens.
ReplyDeleteJudge this yourself.
If you can send delegates to Abia for Negotions, i suppose you can as well send delegates to negotiate the release of ''our girls'' and the ceasation of hostility
