Northern Governors on Friday said it was sad that the President Goodluck Jonathan-led Peoples Democratic Party administration had failed to protect Nigerians.
The governors were reacting to last week's terror attacks on Adamawa and Gombe states, which used to have minimal Boko Harm presence.
They also described Jonathan's statement that Boko Haram attacks were raging in All Progressives Congress states because they were not cooperating as "unfortunate."
Speaking to newsmen on Friday, Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, said it was unfortunate that Jonathan claimed that states PDP controls are more peaceful that those controlled by the opposition APC.
The governor, who spoke through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Ahmad Sajoh, told one of our correspondents in a telephone interview that the Boko Haram menace was spiralling out of control because those at the helm of affairs at the federal level had yet to treat it as a national problem that it is.
He said the oath of "office of the President included a mandate to ensure the security of lives and property of all Nigerians irrespective of ethno-religious or party affiliation."
The governor said the state had at various times reminded the President of his responsibilities to the Nigerian people, especially in the area of security.
Similarly, in Borno State, the state government said it was painful that the President who had not deemed it fit to visit the state to genuinely commiserate with bereaved families could accuse victims of the insurgency for being responsible for their misfortune.
A senior official, who pleaded anonymity out of fear of retribution, said, "We feel abandoned. Like the secretary to the state government has come out to say, we have only received N200m since this insurgency started, we have spent over N10bn of our resources which would have been better used to develop the state on security.
"If we had a Federal Government which was alive to its responsibility, this would definitely have not been the case. If your question is: has this government done well in this area? The answer will definitely be a no, it has failed our people."
In his reaction, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, who tried to avoid a direct confrontation with the Federal Government over the issue said the war on terror was the responsibility of all irrespective of political affiliation.
The governor, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, said terrorist attacks were painful.
He said, "It is the responsibility of all of us, in and out of government to fight terrorism. That is the governor's position. All Nigerians should unite in the fight against terrorism."
The APC also lambasted the President which it accused of trying to excuse his failure, especially in the area of security.
The party said it was a shame that the President could say without any sense of remorse that parts of the country controlled by his party were the only ones which were peaceful.
The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Lai Mohammed, said this in an interview with one of our correspondents.
He noted that there had been Boko Haram attacks on the FCT, Katsina and Kaduna, which are ruled by the PDP.

"The APC also lambasted the President which it accused of trying to excuse his failure, especially in the area of security." So APC birthed Boko Haram and created insecurity in order to lambast the president. Whether anybody likes to hear it or not, APC created the insecurity that is now threatening the foundation of Nigeria. APC chieftains, by the way they talk, haveopenly express support for Boko Haram as their military wing. The kind of inflammatory statements and hate preachments Nasiru El-Rufai makes everyday fuel and aid the insurgency in the same way millions of naira aids to the insurgents do. Apart from Major General Muhammadu Buhari, who decried the killing of Boko Haram insurgents and said that the clamp down on them was anti-North [<<< http://thenationonlineng.net/new/buhari-faults-clampdown-on-boko-haram-members/ >>>], Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the APC National Publicity Secretary had also said only last year that the proscription of the murderous Boko Haram and Ansaru was a wrongful violation of the Constitution, and that it tampers with the fundamental human rights of Nigerians. [<<< http://thenationonlineng.net/new/acn-boko-harams-ban-violates-constitution/ >>>]. How, he wouldn't say.
ReplyDeleteAnd only last month, the same Lai Mohammed said that his party's position is that the government should adopt a well sort out amnesty programme to ensure that the senselessly murderous Boko Haram militants are trained to become employable and engaged gainfully when they lay down their weapons if it wants to achieve results just as in the case of the Niger Delta militants.

Barrister my arse!
DeleteFake Barrister Boko Haram starts during Late Yar adua/Jonathan regime when APC was not born. For this terror end to end Nigerians must forget about any of their differences and fight Boko haram, but as far as people will continue talking out of political/Religion/ethinic differences then Boko haram fire can engulf the whole country in the future. God forbid.
DeleteI admire your right to freedom of speech but remember who are the elements that destroyed Nigeria due to misrule. Northern govs my foot. They are all fools and sponsors of BH. Develop your backward region and stop portraying Nigeria in bad light. Invest in education & stop sponsoring of harlots to Mecca.
ReplyDeleteBare roy and ann. 4:35am are both fools. There is no boko haram in Niger delta how comes first lady being dull. Her speech is always a bomb blast that no northern first ladies has ever been so low grammatically. The north has also produce distinguished academicians in various professional endeavors. Therefore education cannot be the root cause of BH. If GEJ continue like this I wonder how he will win again because PDP is still northern formed party. Though power belong to GOD but democracy is a game of number and the majority also has GOD and even born to rule the minority.
ReplyDeleteGame of numbers. The majority numbers are not in the north they just have been rigging their sums. If I was president I will stop everything and do a proper census and shut these northern rulers up. They have kept their people in poverty and ignorance for decades. What did they do for all the time they where in office and awarding everything to themselves including oils blocks? Enemies of progress and blood shredders at the slightest change.
DeleteTell them, even Bayelsa the president's home state is the worst in crime in the country with kidnapping as it's trade mark, as well as oil thieves
DeleteThese Northern govrs are fools, u are sponsoring BH to kill ur people inorder to blackmail jonath govemnt, this to remind u that jona has nothing to loose but u have loose ur love one. U will pay for thoseinnocent blood
ReplyDeleteNotherners are freer to accuse and insult GEJ but are very scared to confront their common enemy: BOKO HARAM. That has been their NEMESIS
ReplyDeleteJust because northerner want to rule the country.they kept killing there own people people.its quit unfortunate
ReplyDeleteJonathan has failed Nigerians ......stupid Governors from northern nigeria have said what is their mind for a long time, Jonathan failed to stop all your plans by killing your people in other to tell us he is not capable to rule nigeria ......Let me tell you guys something. ...If Jonathan lose that seat in 2015. ..Nigeria will never see oil to use talk of sale to America and other countries, keep on killing yourselves because of only one man called Good luck Jonathan. .....
ReplyDeleteIt is all properganda.........planned work by the Northernerns and opposition parties....
ReplyDeleteThe poorest ability of Jonathan is better than that of nay Northern counterpart, because they don't have any idea what development is.....
PDP and APC are unfortunate political parties in Nigeria. They have had their time. The insecurity in Nigeria is highly political BOKO HARAM is no doubt the handiwork of APC against GEJ. The promise by helmsmen of APC to make Nigerian ungovernable is a project that has been fully pursued with BOKO HARAM insurgency.
ReplyDeleteNow that some Northern Governors have abandoned PDP into APC, we stand to ask ourselves as Nigerians what good thing will APC offer Nigeria with these bundles of destroyers - greater insecurity.
Nigerians had better pray for alternate political party other than APC PDP.if we must come out of the present mess we find ourselves as a country.
