Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned the federal government against turning the country into a police state following the restrictions placed on the way of some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and party members, to attend the campaign rally for their Ekiti State counterpart yesterday.
A press statement from the media office of the former Vice President noted that the action of the PDP-led federal government in stopping the governors of Kano, Rivers and Edo from attending the APC governorship campaign rally in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, in a Gestapo-like manner is capable of turning Nigeria into a Banana Republic where fundamental rights of citizens are trampled upon with impunity.
The Turaki Adamawa was particularly miffed at the way the federal government has been dragging the military and police into politics warning "the government must stop instigating state security agents paid from tax payers money against helpless, hapless and law abiding Nigerians."
The APC top chieftain who promised at the party's recent national convention that he would lead the vanguard to unseat the Jonathan administration he described as inept and incompetent, enjoined "our gallant military men should remain focused on securing and protecting the territorial integrity of our great nation, especially in this time of terror attacks and insurgency across the country."
Atiku also reminded Nigerians "a government that deprives its citizens from access to jobs and education as manifested by the on-going closure of some tertiary institutions, such as polytechnics, to be shut for nearly a year, has alienated itself from the masses and will definitely suffer the repercussion at the polls, use of force or not."
He stressed that the only viable alternative to the PDP-led government is the APC, which he said, "is a prescription for socio-political peace, progress, equity, security, unity and national development." Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Though not sure whether APC will give us better leadership but PDP rule under GEJ is appalling, first it was with the media/press now restricting some pple Movement against their wish, I thought we are operating a democratic system, GEJ is towing a wrong part, if he does not exercise caution he will end up in a wrong side of Nigeria history.

What is happening in the polity is unfortunate, i just cannot recall when last this kind of barbaric act has taken place in our political environment. There is need for them to know the truth. That is why we really need to commend the likes of Atiku for their in the protection of democracy.
ReplyDeleteGEJ should take easy.it is nt do or die .let his good work speak for him if he has any .desparation will further ruin his image
ReplyDeleteI totally agree not only with the content of this message but also the messenger Atiku Abubakar. It really a thing of shame to know that the same people we elected to lead us to the "promise land" are now the same people that has decided to turn against us, using the security agents that are paid from our taxes against us and oppressing us at every given chance. This same government has shot down our polytechnics, Colleges of Education, Our air space and now our roads, Please is this what democracy is all about?
ReplyDeleteThe government should face developmental projects and stop all this petty politics, Oppression of its already impoverished citizens and suppression of all oppositions.
I pray that God have mercy on us and give us visionary leaders to lead us out of all this.
