The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has described media reports that it had dropped corruption case against the governor-elect of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, as untrue.
The agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, told our correspondent on Monday that the recent election of Fayose had not affected the ongoing trial of the governor-elect at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, for alleged corruption.
Uwujaren said that the case would come up for hearing on July 15, 2014, adding that the immunity clause in the Constitution only applied to the President, the Vice President, sitting governors and their deputies, and not governors- elect.
He said, “The EFCC has not dropped the case against the former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.
“The trial is still going on; it is continuing at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti. In fact further hearing comes up on July 15, 2014.
“As you know, immunity from prosecution applies only to the President, the Vice President, sitting governors and their deputies.”
Uwujaren added that the case against Fayose, who is expected to take over as Governor of Ekiti State in October, had made substantial progress as the commission had called two witnesses to testify in the case.
Uwujaren also said that the issue of whether the case against the governor-elect would be withdrawn or not when he takes over as governor was a matter for the court to decide.
“It is the court that would decide whether the case would be discontinued or not; all arguments will be canvassed in court and it is the court that would decide,” he said. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDelete'As you know, immunity from prosecution applies only to president, the vice president, sitting governor and their deputies' few days ago, fayose was what? Idiotic minded, this agency is a waste, its no longer what it supposed to be.
Adeola, that agency was never what we expect. They are notting but “fraudsters“ in disguise as you call them already.
DeleteEFCC . Hmmm our own efcc I love to hate u
ReplyDeleteApc at work
ReplyDeletedont mind them....they will go to court, set him (Fayose) free of all charges and swear him in! I just pity the so called Ekiti people that cannot differentiate Right from wrong despite the numbers of Professors! God save Nigeria from a confused Government ruling a confused people!
ReplyDeleteDon't mind them. Their corruption charges is all propaganda. To me, the support from the masses doesn't depict Fayose as a man that ate money to the detriment of his state. His people likes him so EFCC should back off and don't play any games. I hope they are not been used as a tool against the emergence of Fayose. There are so many obvious BIG theives out there to catch.
ReplyDeleteThis man was not supposed to have been allowed to contest in the s first place. PDP is corruption.
ReplyDeleteSanusi wouldn't have been chosen as the Emir of Kano because of corruption charges against him. Infact OBJ was not suppose to be a president from the prison.
DeleteI wonder when Nigerians will start to speak the truth. Imagine corruption case against a man who diligently worked for his people. If he had been that corrupt would we have voted him in again? if u like, let him have more than one case to answer, lalanlala.
ReplyDeleteEFCC, abeg open your eyes wide to see the real and actual corrupt leaders to be persecuted.
Fayose is being tried by EFCC for corruption, yet he is nominated by the ruling party as their candidate for governorship and elected by the same people who have been hurt immensely by corruption in their state and in the country. Does that make any sense? No, except in Nigeria where everyone has come to accept corruption as part of us. In which case, why not disband EFCC and similar agencies? Obviously the people do not care about corruption, otherwise why would they elect Fayose, a man that is charged with corruption to lead them. Or, are Nigerian voters just plain ignorant and only care about a bag of rice come election time?
ReplyDeleteHe has a case to answer n he was chosen by his party n won d election n u think that will stop him from occupying govt house in october...EFCC must be joking...but i'm sure he'll get a state pardin sometime soon too but what else is new self...if omisore(whos the PDP governorship candidate in osun) can be in prison n win an election...then any and everything is possible in naija
ReplyDeleteY will someone who has a case to answer contest at all? I thought integrity is a key characteristic of leadership
ReplyDeleteWe rejoice and dance on the streets when the corrupt triumph, yet we ask God to come to our rescue. He won't. The goverment in power is popping champaign because their corrupt son has been elected. Where does Nigeria go from here under Jonathan?
