The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has described Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State as a true democrat.
The party said this in a statement on Monday while reacting to Fayemi’s rare show of patriotism and sportsmanship in conceding defeat and congratulating the PDP candidate and governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, who won last Saturday’s governorship election.
The party in the statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said Fayemi’s exceptional show of statesmanship had earned him the respect and admiration of Nigerians as a man of honour, a true democrat and a patriot.
Metuh said, “He has exhibited the spirit of sportsmanship propagated and practised by the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan.”
He also called on politicians in the country to “imbibe the same spirit and jettison all forms of bad loser syndrome especially ahead of the 2015 general elections.”
He added that credit must be given to President Jonathan for his insistence on free, fair and credible elections at all levels, adding that it was on record that the PDP and the President had never hesitated in congratulating other parties and their candidates whenever they won in an election.
While thanking the people of Ekiti State and the entire nation for the massive support given to the ruling party, Metuh said the current leadership of the party under the National Chairmanship of Ahmadu Adamu Muazu was more than ever before, committed to ensuring transparent and credible primaries that will guarantee the emergence of only popular candidates for elections. Gov. Fayemi has shown a good example, PDP will you accept defeat when the ball turns against you? its very easy for you Mr. Metuh to wag your mouth.... will you advice you party members to learn from Gov. Fayemi's legacy? Warn all your members that have been involved in talking any how like children expecially WIKE and others. Politics its not a do or die affair. I celebrate Gov. Fayemi and the APC of Ekiti state, they lost the election but they have shown that they have the right attitude and are ready to allow peace and justice, i think this is a good statement made by the party. Mr. President sir, dont just celebrate, before the election, there was abuse melted on the APC members and GOVERNORS, please do well to investigate it and punish all involved in the act, APC alerged that there men were unlawfully arrested, this Gov. Fayemi made the statements, please look into it dont just be interested in winning the election and all others should go to hell. please we nigerians want to see ur actions on this.
