Four members of the Edo State House of Assembly, who were suspended on Monday by the House, have described as fallacious the allegation made by the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, that they got N50m each to dump the All Progressives Congress, for the Peoples Democratic Party.
Oshiomhole had yesterday said that four lawmakers, who recently decamped to the PDP, had been given N50m each to “sell their mandates”.
The affected members, Deputy Speaker, Festus Ebea, Esan South-East; Patrick Osayimwen, Oredo East; Friday Ogieriakhi, Orhionmwon South and Jude Idehen, Ikpoba-okha, told newsmen on Tuesday in Benin that the bribery allegation was false and baseless.
Spokesperson for the group, Festus Ebea, disclosed that they had, on the contrary, been offered money by the governor which they refused.
“I was offered money twice through the former Majority Leader by Mr. Governor, but I refused.
“The money which they said was meant for me, which I refused to take, is still with the Former Majority Leader. I wish them well.
“He goes about suspending teachers, removing workers’ names from payroll and kicking widows and telling them to go and die,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Uyi Igbe, described the “suspension” of himself and other members of the House by the four suspended lawmakers as laughable.
Uyi, while briefing journalists in Benin, noted that the suspended members, who broke into the hallowed chambers, tried to dispossess the Clerk of the House, Robert Ogini, of the mace but decided to carry on with the unlawful sitting, when efforts to take hold of the mace was unsuccessful.
