Scores of suspected terrorists have been arrested by security forces who have embarked on a nationwide surveillance as part of measures to contain the security challenge in the country.
The suspects were said to have been arrested as they plot to bomb certain targets across the country.
The Director, Defence Information,Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, who announced this in Abuja on Wednesday, however did not give the exact number of suspects in custody.
He stated that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the blasts in Jos, Plateau State, adding that the nationwide surveillance would continue.
He said, “We want to inform the public that surveillance activities all over the federation has continued and it is yielding positive results in the sense that a number of persons have been apprehended who are planning or plotting to continue the bombing streak, but as a mark of the vigilance of the security agencies as well as the citizens who have given a lot of useful information, a number of such persons have been apprehended and they are giving useful information.”
Olukolade said that the attack on Buni Nyadi town,Yobe State on Tuesday claimed 12 soldiers and 13 policemen, adding that the gallant security personnel died while defending specific targets that were under attack.
According to him, the attacks were targeted at the town, but the troops were able to stand their ground and defend it and some of them lost their lives in the process.
Asked why the Air Force failed to dispatch fighter jets to assist their beleaguered colleagues during the attack that reportedly lasted for two hours, the Defence spokesman, retorted that there was no gap in the war against terrorism, noting that all the military units were working together to combat terrorism in the country.
He said,”I want to say there is no such gap as alleged. The tendency has always been on the part of maybe yourself and all others, they have taken a new interest now in calculating how long an attack lasts and alleging almost instantly that there was no response.
“The logistics involved has to be understood and it will not be proper to conclude that troops on ground, either they are on air or on land, are not responsive, that has been one message that some people are out to put out there, it may not be always correct, but where such is found, the system knows how to take care of it.”
Olukolade said that security forces would continue to improve based on the logistics, the resource available to them as well as the information at their disposal.
He said that troops who raided various locations had made some arrests in connection with the attack at Gume Kachia in Kaduna State and recovered some weapons from the suspects. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Mr olukolade, your answer to the important question raised is grossly inadequate! Why was there no air support for ground troops fighting for over two hours? is there no air force base in Maiduguri? are the jet fighters there for decoration? or our dear pilots have suddenly gone extinct? how many minutes does it take a fighter jet to respond to a distress call? I strongly believe there is a deliberate attempt to sacrifice the lives of our beloved soldiers as there is a clear indication that there is no proper synergy between the armed forces fighting in that region. Even a novice knows that in the theatre of war, airpower is always superior!!! Why is it so dormant and almost non-exsistant in this case? Food for thought!
ReplyDeleteDon't mind Mr Olukolade.... President suppose to relocate their offices to Borno state...
DeleteHe will be there in Abuja giving false information and be lying visibly.
Was he not the one that said that time that All the Chibok girls have been rescued by the military except 8? He taught we have forgotten?
