The Islamist sect, wants guarantee of non arrest or killing of its members from the federal government in the on-going negotiation between the two sides.
Leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau had said that the only condition the more than 200 school girls it seized in Borno would be released is for government to free Boko Haram members being held by security agencies.
President Goodluck Jonathan has ruled out swapping such high risk criminals for the girls although government seems disposed to letting go wives and kids of Boko Haram leaders and members considered to be less dangerous.
The talks are ongoing through some intermediaries including some elders from Borno State.
The sect is said to be demanding the release of some of its members in custody for the release of the girls, including those convicted.
They are also asking for a guarantee that none of their members would either be arrested or killed by the military and security agencies as being done indiscriminately at present.
Some of the members in custody, according to records released by the State Security Service (SSS), are: Ali Sanda Umar Konduga (a.k.a Usman Al-Zawahiri), who was jailed for three years in December 2011; Ismail Kwaljima (a.ka. Abu Summaya); Babagana Mali (a.k.a Bulama); and Kabiru Sokoto, who is still on trial.
Two of the Boko Haram leaders (Bashir Madalla and Habeeb Umar Bama) had died during alleged shoot-out with the JTF and security agencies.
Others are Mustapha Umar (sentenced to life imprisonment last year); H. P Bukar; Ahmad Rufai Abubakar; Muhammadu Sani Ishaq; Adamu Yusuf; Yau Said; and Anas Isah.
A suspect, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche (who was arrested in Sudan) is expected to join the list.
The list is outside 19 Boko Haram leaders declared wanted by the JTF with N290million ransom placed on them.
A government source said: “It is extremely difficult for government to swap some of these members implicated in bomb explosions with the abducted girls.
“The terrorism Act does not allow this. The criminal justice system does not also support it. But the government may concede some waivers in respect of the wives, children, parents, brothers, uncles or relations of some of these Boko Haram members in custody.
At least, there are about 300 to 400 Boko Haram suspects in various facilities whose case files are being reviewed by relevant desks. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

so the elders know how and where to reach them anytime negotiation is mentioned? federal govt should stop funding hypocritical and pretending negotiators.
ReplyDeletethe elders are not to be trusted the are evil and their children wont repent even the are freed, he who takes life like an arm robber should have the same capital punished except arm robber's will also be let free
ReplyDeleteSo absurd
ReplyDeleteIt will amount to total foolishness to release any of those murderers. Swapping them for the girls will amount to the beginning of a new era of violence as their members will have the time and freedom to recruit and train new ones. Please stop this useless negiotiation. Why negiotiate with Boko haram? They are running out of manpower and ammunition. They'll soon be finnished. Just sustain the war a little longer and you'll see success in the end. Please don't release these blood suckers.
ReplyDeleteThey shud not be freed. After waistin trillion lives. They shud split the country. They r evil, wicked, cruel , mosters, hardhearted, demon, they r setanic agents, They dont dserve freedom. Wot they dserv is daeth with great punishment. They r destroyers of peace, love and unity. Woe to boko harram.
ReplyDeleteSo the Islamic sect members of Boko Haram are also afraid of death. As to the negotiation itself, you''ll recall that they (BM) were being reminded by the likes of Shehu Sani to so demand. Part of the truth in the scene we are all watching is that "they" want what the govt did to Niger Delta militants to be done to members of BH and by extension their children. Unfortunately, both situations are always and readily distinguishable. Thank Yoi.
ReplyDeleteWho is fooling who in this Country? And they keeping blaming Jonathan. Am even surprise that most intelligent people still follow them to blame Jonathan and accusing him of ineffectiveness. They already said they will sue for human right violation. They will sue Rtd General Azubuike for human right violation. Now they have their General leading the war and they are sabotaging the war against this Boko Haram. Who is fooling Who?
ReplyDeleteWhat is life imprisonment for mass killlers?why won't the rest of Bokoharam ask for their freedom wen the Government is keeping them alive in Prison, ptsheww
ReplyDeleteAll of you don't want the BH members to be freed but you are all shouting at the FG for the release of the girls. Some of these so called elders are politicians and retired millitary personal who have their boys in the millitary and they are using them to frustrate the efforts of the FG to fight this insurgent. FG can't just sack these bad eggs except they have real evidence against them. So now what should the FG do when everybody is crying BRING BACK OUR GIRLS. People are already in the opinion that the FG should concede to BH and get the girls freed. Let them release the BH members and bring back the girls. Then let Nigerians face the consequences. Nigerians are dancing to the tune of these evil men. I wonder what we are still doing together as one country. We should divide now and let everybody face their own problems.
ReplyDeleteIf they release those guys, they'll blow times 10 of wat they did and if they catch their members along the line, they'll kidnap 1000 chibok girls and negotiate with FG. Its a simple mathematics, my advice is let FG and the US soilders move to full attack to BH location and finish them off and if the death of the 200 chibok girls will end the terrorism in nigeria the may their souls rest in perfect peace.
