A Northern-based activist and President of Civil Rghts Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Shehu Sani, declared on Wednesday that the meeting between ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo and family members of Boko Haram insurgent was to open a new channel of dialogue with the sect.
He added that the meeting, which held in Abeokuta, was aimed at finding a way of releasing the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
The activist, who confirmed to be part of the meeting in a statement in Kaduna on Wednesday, noted that the meeting was meant to fashion out a fresh understanding to resolve the crisis of insurgency bedevilling the country.
Sani’s statement read, “My statement is in response to the reports and the enquiries on the Abeokuta meeting with the former president Olusegun Obasanjo and some family members of the Boko Haram group.
“This is to confirm that the meeting actually took place and I was part of it. The meeting was solely aimed at exploring the possibility of opening a new channel for dialogue or negotiation with the sect members towards securing the release of the abducted Chibok girls held in captivity for over a month.”
He said at the meeting with the former president and the Boko Haram family members, there was an appraisal of the previous reportedly collapsed backdoor deal that was later cancelled by the government.
He said, “I wish to also confirm that the report of the intervention of Mr. Salkida in negotiating the release of the Chibok girls is credible.
“I personally introduced Salkida to the government and spoke about him in many of my previous interviews. He had tried his best in the past and of recent to help in resolving the insurgency through dialogue but was on all occasions frustrated by the government.
“Mallam Salkida should not be vilified but should be appreciated. Salkida’s attempt could have actually seen to the release of the abducted girls. The meeting in Abeokuta was aimed at repackaging and salvaging the dialogue option.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteobasanjo remember there is God ooo. All your underground arrangements in the past against Gej not to run for second term are part of what motivated many of our present challeges in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you Baba, you are showing the morons in power what leadership is.
ReplyDeleteI hope we (,,igerians and the Govt) are ready and sincere about our effforts at wagig war against the Islamist group, BokoHaram? Whhhile the govt is making us believe that BH members are faceless, the same govt is inviting somebody they see as a friend to members of the BH. While we as individual are actually believing that members of the islamic sect are faceless, OBJ is meeting with family members of BH. I hope we are ready abd sincere in our fight?
ReplyDeleteIf nigeria can not identify the bh group to settle with then, let obj do it for us since he know their close families, God is watching us.

ReplyDeleteI have never seen a country as funny as this our Nigeria. So some people know the families of the BH members. I thought they exist in isolation before now. Anyway, OBJ should continue talking to them so that the girls will be returned safely to their families.

ReplyDeleteWhy are you meeting with Boko Haram families? The family of Boko Haram is boko haram. They should all be killed. They know where the girls are and you should lock up the families of all the boko haram members. The government should not be talking with them. You should be killing them.
ReplyDeleteremember how Obj came into power in 1999? Because they needed a stooge, now same thing is playing out. The Northerners know the Boko haram men and only want to use Obj to reach out to them, to make it look like as if the northerners are part of boko haram's menace,.
