Nigerian muslims should unite against Boko Haram - IBB

Piqued by the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect in the country, a former military head of state, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd) has called on Nigerian Muslims to rise up against the continued blackmail of the religion of Islam in the land.

“Islam enjoins you to live peacefully with fellow human beings. Allah says there is no compulsion in religion, so this alone is okay for us. Therefore, anybody who will come and smear our name, all Muslims should kick against that. Muslims should also do everything possible to stop this continued blackmail against the religion of Islam. We must prepare to fight it and ensure that we become successful,” he said.

Babangida, in a telephone interview with the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation monitored in Kaduna State on Saturday, also said now was the time for Nigerians to unite so as to rescue the missing Chibok schoolgirls in Borno State.

While commiserating with parents of the Chibok schoolgirls over the abduction of their children, the former military ruler said, ”first of first, I am together with the parents of those girls in prayers so that Allah will protect these children. Secondly, this has affected the entire country. Once you are a Nigerian, no matter your religion, what happened to these children has affected every one that is called a Nigerian.”

On the slow response of the Federal Government with regards to rescue efforts, Babangida said now was not the right time to apportion blames.

“Allah has destined that this thing would happen in this way, what we are supposed to do is to look for ways that we can assist in finding these missing girls. If we could find them, they are not just girls from Chibok, no..they are Nigerian girls. So what I hope is that, the Muslims, the Christians, even the animists,” he said.

  1. Baba IBB, you suppose to still keep quiet and leave them to ALLAHU(SWT). Islam is bigger than anybody or country and blackmail. It cannot continue like this we will soon know who are the boko haram and their sponsorers. They believe in media propaganda while we believe in reality. Upon the wrath this menace has brought to the north ,the south still continue to say it is a northern agenda against GEJ. They forgot that the menace of BH in the north is so monumental that cannot exempt a particular category of people talkless of xtains that are integral part of the north. Nobody asked about the religion of yobe students slaughtered in their dormitory last time because they believe they are not xtains. They forgot to realize that the said xtains are indigens and not southerners. In all ramifications the havoc is in the north. They forgot that democracy is a game of number and the north need not damaged itself to this extent to shift presidency. This present boko haram whether real or phantom shall be exposed together with their sponsorers INSHA ALLAH and the north shall claim damages.

So why anything we say God/Allah. ...those that eating our money and kill us let stand up and fight back not seat one place telling God to go and punish them impossible, because they will live and die when the same God/Allah we are calling to punish them signed for them. ....nigerians be wise. ....

  12. The truth of the matter is that even the Northern leaders are scared of making any negative comments about the bokoharams. But now that the international communities are on ground to help, the Northern elders now feel safe to some extent which is why they can openly condemn the activities of the terrorists. For all I know - the days of the bokoharams are numbered. It is their last battle this time around. Hearing and confirming that foreign security forces are on their trail is enough to send shiver down their rotten spines!

    1. Of all the Northern elites, Atiku has been the strongest and consistent voice against boko haram. He has made several suggestions to government on how to overcome this insurgency- his last suggestion was for government to seek foreign assistance immediately after the Nyanya bomb blast.

  19. IBB and co should talk to their Imams and other Islamic clerics to stop preaching hatred for Christianity in their mosques. For me that is the solution to Nigeria's religious problems.

  20. GJ, CAN and co too should stop their hypocrisy toward muslims, thats only when we will have united Nigeria. For me too thats Nigerian Solution.

  21. IBB suppose to mention the names of co-sponsors of the Boko Haram than keeping the mule that he is sympathizing with the missing girls. The earlier he can mention the names of those northern muslims invlmovesd in this Boko haram sect, the better we can solve this problem
