Nigerian christians hold nationwide prayer for peace

The Christian Association of Nigeria on Tuesday called for a one-day national prayer tagged 'Recover Nigeria,' the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the General Secretary of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake, in Lagos.

The statement said the decision to hold the national prayer became necessary following the growing concern about the security situation in the country.

It said the prayer session, which would be led by the CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, would be held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

The statement said the prayers would also be held between 11a.m. and 1p.m. on Friday, May 16 at designated centres across the country.

It said, "All state chapters of the association have been directed to coordinate the prayers at designated locations in all states of the federation.

"The prayer session will hold simultaneously in churches across the country on Friday May 16 between 11 a.m and 1 p.m."

It urged all state chapters of CAN to 'please' mobilise Christians from all church groups in their states for the prayers.

The association expressed confidence that prayers would help the nation in overcoming its current challenges, particularly the reign of terror in some parts of the country.

It urged all Christians to actively participate in the forthcoming prayer programme as part of CAN's contribution to the fight against insurgency in the country.

The association pledged its continued commitment to the quest for peace and its support for government in its fight against insurgency.
