A former Minister of Communication and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has said Nigeria is fast becoming a laughing stock among other nations in the world because of the state of insecurity in the country.
Ogbeh therefore asked President Goodluck Jonathan to take drastic actions in the fight against the Boko Haram sect, noting that the country was already in “grave danger”.
The former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Monday night, wondered why the Federal Government and the military could deploy soldiers to man streets without adequate equipment.
He said a situation where invaders would arrive and kill 100 in Katsina, 215 in Birnin Kebbi, kill in Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa states without being challenged was not acceptable.
He alleged that some of the the mercenaries were hired from neighbouring counties, saying that when they were caught, it was realised that they were of Arabian nationalities.
He said, ”Nigeria is fast becoming a laughing stock in the world. I think it is reaching a state where not only foreigners but Nigerians will begin to loose confidence in their country.
“Again what of our neighbours, how much respect does the Cameroon, Niger or Chad have for Nigeria? And what level of diplomacy are we deploying to talk to these people to make sure that bandits don’t take refuge in their territory? If they had respect for Nigeria they won’t try it.
“I remember 1983 when some Chadian troublemakers invaded Nigeria and killed some soldiers, Gen. Buhari pursued them on the orders of President Shehu Shagari until the United States started panicking that we were implementing a Gaddafi agenda.
“Recently I was discoursing with Buhari on this issue and he said he wanted to give them a bloody nose because he wanted to show them that they had no busy entering Nigeria to cause trouble.
“So when are we going to get tough. We are not a small country. And why should small neighbors do this to us or pretend not to know what is going on? When are we going to take tough measures against them?” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Well its Nija fault not theirs cz we fail to stand in committee of Nations that we belong due to corruption and impunity which its the order of the day in this present administration just imagine till now no corrupt entity is prosecuted are we all saints!!
ReplyDeleteIf only you guys understand what it means to fight faceless terrorists. Nigeria is under a ski gear and our nobles are busy playing the blame game. For once in their lives they should cast politics aside for the sake of our daughters and put their heads together. Enough of rubbish talk of what should have been.
ReplyDeleteMinister u are talking of nigeria becoming a laughing stock, what ve been ur contribution in solving this problem. Stop talking and start being useful as a stake-holder
ReplyDeleteFor heavens sake, what other thing do we want this man to say?. He has given a hint already. The military should just be ordered by the CIC to overrun these states border country and take over the border surveillance. Will the countries claim they do not know when these insurgents with all military gadgets are crossing their borders. The time is already overdue to act by the President and attract the entire world attention to these rats countries harbouring the terrorists and make Nigeria a no go area.
ReplyDelete"I think it is reaching a state where not only foreigners but Nigerians will begin to loose confidence in their country." Audu Ogbe. What an understatement! I lost confidence in my country, Nigeria the day Jonathan was sworn in as the country's President. My country and her people deserve much more better than what we are getting.
ReplyDelete@ Audu Ogbe We are not a small country. But we are governed by the most small minded of pygmies on earth.
ReplyDeleteI have always blamed the Northern leaders who allowed all those citizens of those countries like Chad, Cameroon, etc to have absolute and total freedom of movement in the North in the name of religion. They have known all the nooks and crannies of the north without proper checking. It was easier for them to regard those moslems from those countries as their brothers than regarding citizens of of the Southern Nigeria as their brothers. So, now the repercussion has come. The borders seem to be porous and that has given those foreigners the leeway to come in and cause havoc in Nigeria.
