The two sons of the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Momoh Lawal, that were kidnapped about six weeks ago are yet to be released.
The children, Ogirima, seven; and Hafeez, three, were abducted on April 15 after the gang had, at about 4am, scaled the fence and invaded Lawal's residence at Okengwe in Okene Local Government Area of the state.
Also, the mother of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Fair Plus Transport Services, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, was abducted during the week.
Hajia Hawawu Bello was abducted by a five-man gang in her residence at Nagazi Uvete in Adavi Local Government Area at about 9pm.
In an interview with our correspondent on Friday in Ilorin, a former Acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, urged the suspected kidnappers to release the Speaker's children and the old woman.
Bello, who was also a former speaker of the state, added that the victims should not be subjected to further inhumane treatment and captivity.
According to him, Kogi State cannot afford to pay the demanded ransom.
He said, "I appeal to those who kidnapped the Speaker's children to release them because these children are harmless. And Kogi is a poor state in Nigeria. The kidnappers should not think that being a Speaker is an automatic ticket to wealth.
"The Speaker does not have any money to pay ransom to any kidnapper." Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
