Read General Muhammadu Buhari's Statement On Abducted Chibok Girls

Over the past few weeks, the abduction of the school girls at Chibok, Borno State has underscored the threat we have been facing as a nation in recent times from the actions of misguided persons masquerading as adherents of Islam.

Our hearts are with families who have lost loved ones in this cycle of senseless violence. We also empathize with the parents of children whose daughters are in the custody of a group of anarchists.

That horrific video posted on the Internet is a clear manifestation of the mindlessness of the bigots. It shows them for whom they are, such men cannot threaten nor should they be allowed to violate our sovereignty. It is clear from what they profess that they are not followers of God. They do not mean well for our country and her citizens. I am a Muslim, I am versed in the teaching of Christianity and I understand both religions to seek peaceful co-existence of all humanity.

I wish to reiterate that there is no justification whatsoever for this unrestrained disregard for the sanctity of human life. It has no place in the Holy Quran and neither does it have a place in the Holy Bible.

Let these people know that the entire civilized world is united against their terrorist act. We are grateful to the world for standing by Nigeria at this trying time. We hope and pray that the young ladies will be reunited with their respective families in the days to come

While the Federal Government and the nation’s Armed Forces are working to ensure citizens’ safety under the present situation, we believe that more could still be done to ensure the safety of Nigerians and the Nigerian nation. We are therefore glad that the Federal Government has accepted international support in the search for the missing girls and for an end to the insurgency in parts of the country.

I fought for a united Nigeria. In my old age, I want my grand children, your grand children, our youths and indeed all Nigerians to benefit from a prosperous and united country devoid of sectarian violence whether home grown or imposed on us from outside.

Now is not the time to play politics. Now is also not the time to trade blames and amplify our ideological differences. The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable and nothing should divide us as a people. I therefore urge all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to support the country in her effort to bring an end to this attack on defencelesscitizens and indeed a united nation.

We must put aside all other considerations and ensure that our country Nigeria pulls together now so as to recover our sovereignty. After all, we all know that Nigeria is the ONLY country we have that we can call our own.

God help and bless Nigeria.

Thank you.

GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR

    2. Now that General has had a rethink, we should listen to him. He has suddenly realised that he should talk and act like a statesman that he ought to be. There is hope then for Nigeria. This turnaround is good for the General's image which he had willingly been dragging in the mud in the name of playing regional and ethnic politics. Bravo General. Now we confidently turn our prayers for the redemption of another General, a former chief of Naval staff in this country who has thrown decorum to the dogs. That God will touch him like He did to General Buhari, so that he will save himself from self destruction. Though unqualified, he became head the Nigerian Navy purely to fill the quota. But having occupied such exalted position, one would expect some level of refinement from him.

  2. After your defeat in 2011 and a year later what did you say? What of the lives of those NYSC members murdered for no fault of theirs just because you lost an election. If this chibok incidence had taken place in a non-election year would you have voiced against it? Or if it has not attracted international condemnation will you have talke? The dogs and baboons still have blood in them. Even more are been born. Remember how many years you people have murdered people from other tribes. Those your grand children have grown with hatred for others tribe. So save your pen for he who sows wind reaps whirl wind.

  6. Buhari You sef. You Promised us an ungovernable state and now you are agitating for "one nigeria". Shame on you. Before you speak to the citizens of this country you must first apologise to them. We dnt need your advice. The people of nigeria knows what they want. You don't deserve to be heard anymore for real

    1. Buhari is not a serious man. Why didn't you speak before the intervention of international communities. Nigerians are aware of the role you, Babangida, Atiku, Abdulsalami and other Nother elders play in BH. You think you guys will continue killing innocent Nigerian forever

    2. Daft, senseless and moronic comment! Why do idiots like you keep refering to the general's statement to make the country ungovernable which he never said? If not that the President is simply incompetent, how will a single individual boast to make d government ungovernable and yet succeed? Who controls the police, armed forces and all the other security apparatus of the country? Is it the one who boast to make the country ungovernable or the President? If a single individual can boast and make true his/her boast, then it is a big shame to the government!

    3. Well said my brother/sister (even though am not comfortable with "anonymous(s),if the man didn't talk, "nigerian" will complain now he had said something "they" are still condeming the man, habah!! wetin? Did'nt you guys understand "simple" english" or you just wanna comment for "comment sake"?
He said and i quote, now is not the time to play politics, so what else do you want from him? (because "you" still attached sentiment to it) and i say, let fed. govt. charge/ prosecute "him" if there is any evidence/link they have against this man (not as a competitor or opposition) and stop planting seed of "hatred" with their propaganda!

    4. Well said Adeola you and a few commentators have actually said meaningful and unbiased statement.
its appalling that some Nigerians will latch on to hear-say and propaganda against Buhari (spread by Corrupt Politicians afraid of his WAR against Corruption), least I forget this is the only Nigerian who successfully crushed a similar terror group in the 80's (Maitasine) and banished them out of Nigeria as a Brigadier General in the Army.... I know very few are aware of this heroic performance.

If leaders from other world leaders are making their voice heard through televised medium, i advise you do the same in your words, from your heart, then we can feel your pulse. NOT THIS ESSAY FROM YOUR SPEECH WRITER. charles uzodinma

This turn around speech is a well prepared script by experts in public relations and handed over to the general. 27. My annoyance with the General is that he speak in parable. He thought he is still addressing the "old Nugerian" . We are now wise and well exposed. General, if you are truly one of the sponsors of Boko Haram, all you have labored for will perish before your two eyes but if you are not then remain the elder stateman you are and let go of politics.

  33. Am amazed how nitwit a lot of these present day social commentators are! Some body said buhari is just responding after 3 weeks. jonathan the "current" president did not say a single word about the girls until after 3weeks(media chat)! It is on record that Buhari as GOC of Maiduguri Army Division pursue the Maitasini sect that terrorise Nigerians into Chad. That d Chadian president had to appeal to Shagari to intervene! We are all here when jonathan said he is not a general and cannot rule like one! The fact that Nigerians are waiting for Americans to solve the BH issue is a global indirect admission of failure by this Administration! Afterall mister president have been challenged severally publicly to go ahead and arrest anyone in APC if u believe is funding BH named. Am not saying the 'close to 70 years man' is Nigeria answer nw but that does not excuse the glaring failure and disastrous incompetence of mister president!

  34. There is something I have been crying to know since the incident, how many hours it took BH to perform the operation? Did they used invisible power to carry those students without school security sees them? Why those at the school premises at the time didn't called security officers out side the school? Pls let think of thses.

Its a shame.Buhari should bury his head in shame.he will never be president in nigeria again. He can go to niger amd become one no mater d choice of words now.we know you.you can decieve us.u don kno anyting about d bible.give your heart to jesus christ until then you will began to know the bible.God bless GEJ, 2015 for GEJ and God bless Nigeria

Pls give us the youths a chance & see what we can do. I send this message to you & all the rest of our retired old gentlemen, who still hope to linger along the corridors of power. 42. Fellow Nigerians especially those pessimist and trouble makers, you are not up to date but always keep and judge based on rumour and brain washing from a mafian clique ruling our country. For those saying buhari had said nigeria will be un governable, go back to his statement and read in between the lines, then you will get his point. He said Nigerians now have awaken from sleeping, the era were by voters will be deprived of what they vote for will be over, people are becoming intolerant and if such continues the country will be ingovernable. is it not awareness that brought protest over Chibok girls? If Buhari is sponsoring Boko haram then why should he use them to destroy his stronghold. Thank god now that the civilised world is with Maiduguri people. Jonathan said before Boko haram were everywhere in his government but no one said he is sponsoring them. But one thing for sure is his reluctance to deal with Army chiefs that were not ready to fight this war.AS FAR AS MAJORITY OF NIGERIANS WILL BE JUDGING THINGS BASED ON TRIBAL,RELIGION, AND POLITICAL DIFFERENCE THEN WE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE IN AGONY. DONT THINK BOKO HARAM IS NOT AL OVER THE COUNTRY BUT THE WAY ITS BEING HANDLE WILL MAKE IT SPILL ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. ALWAYS BE OPTIMISTIC.

    ReplyDelete
  43. SO FAR THE INVESTIGATION BEFORE AND EVEN TODAY IS POINTING THAT THE FGN/MILITARY WERE NOT SINCERE IN FIGHTHING BOKO HARAM, HILLARY CLINTON BLAST JONATHAN OVER CORRUPTION, THE INTERNATIONAL MARGAZINE TOO HAVE SHOWN UNWILLINGNESS OF JONATHAN GOVERNMENT TO HANDLE THE SITUATION, LABARAN MAKU LINKED UP BOKO HARAM TO SOME IN DEFENSE......A LOT. WE HOPE THE AMERICAN INVESTIGATION WILL NOT LINKED JONATHAN AND HIS BOYS IN THE DEFENSE TO BE BOKO HARAM SPONSORS TRYING TO MAKE ELECTION NOT POSSIBLE IN THE NORTH SO THAT HE WILL CONTINUE IN 2015. THE WORLD IS WATCHING YOU AND A LOT OF CASES OF HUMAN RIGHT ABUSE BY THE MILITARY IN BORNO IS WAITING YOU AT THE INTERNATIONAL COURT.

  44. We shall see who the BH sponsors will be at the end of the game. I am sure it will be a big shuck to all Nigerian when the truth comes out. Remember whatever gets hot will surely get cool, is just a matter of time. We should learn to respect our leaders in office or out of office. Our job as patriotic citizens is advice our leaders to lead us well and positively. Remember no leader plan to fail. Do way we abuse our leaders tell the level of our discipline. Remember some of us will get to the position of leadership one day. Is this what we want other citizens to own and sustain? My brothers and sisters think twice.

I'm a christian and I cherish Gen. Buhari sooooooooo much. Let those who are throwing verbal rockets continue. That will not change who he is. A GALLANT SOLDIER, A TRANSPARENT MAN, AN HONEST MAN and A LOVER OF NIGERIA.

  47. The truth will be revealed soonest. In Sha Allah. Let's keep our fingers crossed. I hope the USA and allies are not here for a diabolic mission? If their presence is a sincere one, then we will soon see a light at the end of the tunnel. In Sha Allah.

  48. Talk is cheap.....this speach was written by his assistat and it was their advice as well. The Northern elites were ok with BH during the all christian killing era until they started killing both Christians and Muslims. You reap what you sow.

    ReplyDelete
  49. POINTLESS UNTIL THEY STARTED KILLING BOTH, THEY STARTED WITH SECURITY IRRESPCTIVE OF RELIGION, THEN LOCAL CHIEFS WHO WERE ALL MUSLIM,THEN CHRISTIANS, THEN SCHOOL TEACHERS IRRESPRCTIVE OF RELIGION. BOMBLAST IN MAIDUGURI DOESNT DIFFERENTIATE RELIGION AND WHO ARE THE MAJORITY THERE, MUSLIM. OKAY KEEP TALKING TODAY FOR MAIDUGURI, THE MONORITIES IN THE NORTH, TOMORROW FOR ANY DEVIL THAT IS HAPPY/NOT SYMPHATIZING WITH US. THATS THE IRONY OF LIFE. THE DYNASTY OF MORETHAN 1000 YEAR WILL PROSPER........HISTORY WILL REVEAL THAT. GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

  50. u who say that buhari is a man u love too much and that u ara a christian, let me tell u, u are not a christian. don't think that u can fool us, u ara not a christian, stupid.

  51. Buhari is not as rightous as he claims, He too stole oil money,of u children won't know this, if buhari, atiku and co. did not breed BH and sponsor dem who then is? Perhaps its my old father in the village?? Belive it or not; northern elders are the cause of their problems, not nigeria n certainly not gej.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The northern elders and leaders are certainly the cause of "not their problems", but our collective problems. The insurgency called Boko Haram affects every Nigerian, nay every human being. The abducted school girls are our children, our relations, either by tribe, nationality, humanity or by faith. So we are all involved one way or the other. If nothing else, the allocation from the national budget devoted to fighting insurgency could be put to more productive used.
