Emir’s murder, a declaration of war – Governors

The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) on Friday described the killing of Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrisa Timta, as irresponsible, callous and a declaration of war on the traditional institution.

It also expressed shock and disbelief at the assassination attempt on the lives of Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ismaila Mamza and Emir of Askira, Alhaji Mai Abdullahi Ibn Muhammadu Askirama by gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect.

The Borno State first class traditional rulers were abducted on Friday while travelling to Gombe State for the funeral of the late Emir of Gombe, Shehu Abubakar, who died earlier in the week.

The condemnation of the dastardly act was contained in a statement issued in Minna by Israel Ebije, the Chief Press Secretary to the Forum’s Chairman Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State.

Aliyu, who described the killing as “irresponsible, callous and an affront on the traditional institution and collective heritage of Nigerians” lamented that the attack came at a time federal government has concluded plans to grant the sect amnesty.

The Forum said, “This is indeed a sad development for us as a region and the nation at large. This is happening at a time we are all doing our very best to rescue our over 200 secondary school girls abducted by the Islamist terror group Boko Haram, from their school in Chibok, Borno State last month.

“We are particularly sad and worried about these ugly developments. We are indeed sad over the killing of the Emir of Gwoza in the recent attack.

The Forum urged the sect members to embrace the amnesty offer promised by President Goodluck Jonathan, saying “dialogue remains the best option for resolving issues.”

  2. Call me "pin point". Just like I said that this country will not move forward as long as corruption exist. BH has kill over 13,000 nigerians and I bliv none of them are in power or any governmental position but just the killing of a single emir of gwoza and it ignites all northerners to wage the war they were suppose to have on BH. I wonder the bribery and commission the late emir occasionally assigns to these set of people fighting for a dead corpse just to show their anger of a cut-shot commission always given to them by the late emir. BH shud target those in charge of bringing petroleum product to 40naira per litre den they'll been seen as heros and not terrorist, after petroleum den electricity and after that minimum wage and after that ribadu shud come back and maintain the effective fight against corruption of our corrupt leaders.

  8. Pls NE stop publishing the nonsense comments that usually comes from this GOODLUCK JONATHAN. The name is not good for his comments. GEJ is not a sectional president but that of entire Nigeria. We still need PDP and northern votes to secure GEJ re-election.

  9. There was a time you dare not condemn BH in the presence of a northern muslim. They will just keep you quiet to show their support for the group becos they felt the group is fighting 'Holy Jihad' ie muslim and christian fight. Now the group has shifted from only christians to muslims and they are crying foul. The north have to come out with the truth about BH and fight the monster they created out of a small group. A Bornu government official said BH started in 2001. So the the present government cannot say it was created against them. My stand is this, the few times BH surfaced from 2001 to 2011 it escalated, they were not given financial support and the then government was able to crush them. They go into hiding and resurface intermittently. But from 2011, some northern politicians saw them as a tool they could use against the government and started funding them allowing them to recruit more people. Am sure the deal was truncated and BH started going outside to seek for funding and support and they started going against muslims they perceived as enemies. So the north must come out with the whole truth and nothing but the truth and end this insurgency.
