Driver docked for stealing employer’s car



A 39‑year‑old driver, Ayodele Adeleke, yesterday, appeared before an Igbosere magistrate’s court in Lagos for stealing his employer’s car.


Adeleke, who resides at 199, Sagamu Express Road, Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Charles Odii, told the court that the driver committed the offence on December 8, 2013 at 11, Unity Drive, in Akowonjo area of the state.

He said the defendant, stole an unregistered Honda CRV car valued at N1.3 million belonging to his employer, one Iseoluwa Elkana.

Odii further stated that Adeleke stole the car on the pretext of cleaning the car, at the residence of his employer and absconded with the vehicle.

According to Odii, the offence is punishable under Section 285(10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

Section 285(10) prescribes a jail term of seven years for anyone found guilty of stealing a motor vehicle.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate E. Kubenje granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case till June 18.
