Bird turns woman saga: Our mother is not a witch — Children

Two men, who identified themselves as children of the old woman alleged to have transformed from a bird into a human being, Wednesday, in the densely populated Ajegunle area of Lagos, yesterday went to Area ‘B’ Command, Apapa, to effect her release, declaring that their mother is not a witch. Rather, the children with undisclosed identities expressed shock over the accusation, describing it as baseless.

They were said to have explained to policemen at the command that their mother lives with them at Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos but that apprehension set in following her disappearance.

While efforts to find her was on, the children said they were shocked to read about her alleged transformation from a bird into a human being in some national dailies yesterday.
According to Police sources,”they said they have never known their mother to be a witch and wondered why such rumour was spread about her.

“They said she left home without informing them of where she was going. They were, however, happy that the publication made it easy for them to locate her and also expressed joy that she was not lynched in the process.”

The traditional ruler of Layeni, Baale Rafiu Olayemi, who stated emphatically that he did not believe the claim, told newsmen that he had to intervene during the panic and confusion by mobilising some of his loyalists to rescue the woman from the surging crowd before contacting the Police at Layeni.

  1. Its beyond belief that these people are actually discussing whether or not this woman changed from a bird. With beliefs like this it is no wonder that Nigeria is 500 years behind the rest of the world, where life is worthless and murder and mayhem is everywhare. Backward beliefs, backward country.

    1. Shame on you Mr. Anonymous. In this age and time, you can believe that a human being can transform to a bird. Do you know in what circumstances she confirmed if at all she did? Pray you are not faced with a murderous mob sometime in your life. You will say anything they demand of you to get a respite.

  3. You are so ignorant. Have you ever heard about a mental illness called innusilation or insomnia or dementia to mention a few. That woman might simply be suffering from one of this old age illnesses. May God help us in Nigeria.

  5. The traditional ruler of Layeni, Baale Rafiu Olayemi deserves commendation for stepping in on time to rescue the old woman from the lawless mob. He has shown that he is worthy of the traditional stool he sits on and this should be emulated by other traditional rulers. The Government, both States and Federal must as a matter of urgency put a stop to all manner of mob action being perpetrated across the country against its citizenry on allegations of kidnap, rape, witchcraft etc until proven by the courts (Traditional Rulers in who's domain mob action is perpetrated must be sanctioned hence forth). Lets remember, it is preferable to let a criminal go free (as he will be caught eventually one day) than to kill an innocent person on trump-up allegation. The police must be ready to swing into action to nip in the bud swiftly, any report of mob action against its citizenry and arrest the perpetrators in order to send a strong signal to everyone to follow the rule of law.

Again let me commend Baale Rafiu Olayemi (My name sake) for saving an innocent life and also congratulate the family/children of the senior citizen for re-uniting with their mother.
