APC condemns forced conversion of abducted Chibok Girls to Islam

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday condemned the reported forced conversion to Islam, of some Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the Boko Haram sect one month ago.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja after an emergency meeting of the party, and made available to newsmen in Lagos by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The Boko Haram sect had abducted over 200 schoolgirls from the Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno on April 14 and international efforts are ongoing to find and rescue the girls.

According to the APC, it deliberated on the Boko Haram issue at its emergency meeting.
"It is patently wrong and unconscionable to force any citizen to convert from one religion to another.

"This whole abduction saga has hit at the very soul of our nation.

"This is appalling, distasteful and unacceptable under any circumstance and we condemn it with all the strength we can muster," the APC said.

The party described the abductors' action in forcing the girls to make statements against their personal convictions as "totally unacceptable, downright unconstitutional and utterly barbaric".

It reminded the abductors that Nigeria was a secular state and its constitution recognised the rights of the citizens to any religion of their choice.

The party urged the government to critically study the latest video by Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, to see what other measures could be added to the ongoing international efforts to find and rescue the girls.

"We have consistently said some form of negotiation cannot and should not be ruled out.
"This is to pry our nation from the grip of these terrorists and ensure the safety and security of our citizens.

"In this regard, we consider as prudent the government's reaction that all options are on the table to safely reunite our girls with their families". (NAN)

  1. Hypocrisy,Hypocrisy,Hypocrisy, you are all liars. What you say in your secret meetings is far from what you tell the public. Just to be seen as Messiah for the nation while you have your secret agenda.

  2. Why hypocrisy ? Who in his or her right sense will support forced religion conversion?what is really wrong with our reasoning nowadays? If u detest someone or hate a group of pple that doesn't mean you shouldn't commend them when they say or do the right thing mind you no one is perfect! Don't just let hatred blocks your mind if you allow that your mind will stop functioning. Be wise.

  4. They are mere insurgents, not Muslims. We dissociate them from being muslims as the holy quran also said that their is no compulsion in religion.Allah did not send them to do this, they have said it that the motive is for the govt to release their members.By Gods grace our girls will be rescued while their members will rotten in prisson.
