Veteran Sports journalist, Aisha Folade, on Monday petitioned the House of Representatives over the death of her son, Oloruntoba Falode , in Dubai, the United Arab Emirate.
The young Olutuntoba had died on February 15 following an alleged fall from the 17th floor of a building where he resided.
Until his death, he was a student of the SAE Institute, Dubai.
In a petition she addressed to the Speaker of the House, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, the commentator lamented that the cause of the incident had been shrouded in mystery as the authorities in Dubai gave incorrect accounts of how he died.
The sports commentator appealed to the Speaker to intervene in the matter to ensure that the authorities in Dubai conducted a thorough investigation into the cause of death and punish those who might be behind it.
She noted that it appeared more like her son was assassinated.
Falode said the accounts of witnesses conflicted with the report of the police in Dubai, suggesting a “cover-up.”
She stated that a full investigation into the incident would help unravel the growing cases of Nigerian students who were killed abroad.
Part of the petition reads, “I am writing to formally petition for the active support of the Federal Government of Nigeria in my efforts to seek justice from the Government of Dubai following the death of my son, Mr. Oluwadamilola Oloruntoba (Toba’) FALODE, who died unexpectedly on the 15th ofFebruary 2014.
“I was informed that Toba died following a fall from the balcony of his 17th floor apartment (1703) located in Manchester Tower, Dubai Marina, Dubai.
“Toba at the time was legally living in Dubai as a student in one of the prestigious universities renowned for musical, audio, sound and film production-SAE Institute, Dubai.”
She appealed that the case file should be translated into English so that the statements of all witnesses could be well assessed.
She added, “I would therefore like to petition the Federal Government of Nigeria to support me in finding out the real truth of what occurred that fateful night my son died.
“Is there a cover-up? Can we access the full case file, translated into English, so that all witness statements are independently reviewed?
“I would also like the House of Representatives to request that every support and assistance is provided by the Government of the UAE for the investigation and further enquiry into the death of my son.
“Only the full weight of the Nigerian Authorities will ensure that the truth is uncovered and my son gets justice.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
