Chelsea will face the tricky task of a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid following today’s draw at Uefa’s headquarters.
The Blues, who fought back from a 3-1 deficit against PSG to make the last four this week, were thrown into the pot with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, with any of the opponents set to throw up a mouthwatering clash.
But it is Atletico for Jose Mourinho’s men, with the Special One bidding to claim the one major trophy he has failed to win at Stamford Bridge, less than one year after his dramatic return to the club in the summer.
The clash has extra spice as on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could line up against his parent club for Atletico, despite suggestions that Mourinho would try to block the Belgian from playing – unless Atletico paid hefty compensation.
In the other semi-final draw, Holders Bayern Munich will take on Real Madrid in the standout tie of the Champions League semi-finals.
Pep Guardiola's men will take on Carlo Ancelotti's side in a repeat of the last-four clash from the 2011-12 season as they bid to defend their crown. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
