A group of soldiers on Friday allegedly attacked and burnt about 37 Fulani settlements in Ganawuri district in Riyom Local Government area of Plateau State.
Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeder Association in the state, Alhaji Haruna Hussaini, told journalists that the soldiers came to the area in a commando style and attacked the villagers and also carted away 137 cows and 60 sheep.
He said that what happened was similar to the unfortunate incident that led to the death of 20 herdsmen in Keana area of Nasarawa State.
Husaini said, “The soldiers came early this morning (Friday) unannounced and started burning our homes, we don’t know what they were looking for or why they were attacking us but thank God no one was killed. However, we heard that they also attacked some Berom homes in Ganawuri and that one person lost his life in the process.”
He said the Fulani in the areas affected were presently scattered while others were taking refuge with relatives in other communities.
The Chairman added that the members of MACBAN have met on this issue and had resolved to see the commander of the Special Task Force.
However, the STF Media and Information Officer, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said there had been an ongoing operation around Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and Kaduna States aimed at flushing out militia groups and people who are unauthorised to bear arms.
