The Nigeria Police Force has urged parents in Nigeria to report suspicious behaviour in their environment and bad behaviour exhibited by their children.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of investigations, Mr. Peter Gana, spoke during a meeting with Chief Security Officers of hotels, tertiary institutions and other organisations in Lagos State on Monday.
Gana said the police alone could not solve the security challenge plaguing the nation and urged Nigerians to always provide the police with information, promising that identities of informants would be kept secret.
The police boss said the activities of terrorists had made many people to react easily to false alarms.
He, however, said it was better to raise a false alarm than to die of an attack that could have been prevented.
He said, “The terrorists we are fighting are living among us. That is why it is a faceless war. Your neighbour might be your enemy and you might not know, so it is necessary we remain security conscious.
“Please be watchful of your environment, the police are available, but they cannot police your homes for you. However, you can be our eye, be security conscious and report strange faces in your environment. It is better to raise a false alarm than to keep quiet and something bad happens.
“Report strange objects and even your stubborn children. If not, you could be a victim of your child who is criminally minded. If a vehicle is parked in your area for too long, report it. If you are not comfortable coming forward with information, you can send an anonymous text message or e-mail to the nearest police station.”
Gana, who is in charge of police formations in the South-West, urged hotel operators to be very vigilant because hotels were usually used as hideouts for criminals.
He said there was need for hotel operators to train their staff on security.
He noted that crowded places like motor parks had been the target of bomb blasts in recent times. He consequently called on the National Union of Road Transport Workers to use the revenue it collected from its members to provide CCTV at the parks. ReplyDeleteMany people in this Nigerian police are so useless, who in his position raised such suggestion, don't they see their own children in their barracks the way and manner they behave, many of their kids are thieves, wives are even something else in the society, now the police themselves in the uniform of our dear Nigeria is a menace, all sort of atrocities in with them and now asking civilian parents to bring their children for torture and be short by guns and say it's a stray bullet. Daft people in uniform.
