Police nab Saudi Arabian for robbery

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a Saudi Arabian, Ali Mohammed, who allegedly connived with three others now at large for robbery at Ibafo axis of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area. The command's spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, also said the police last Saturday picked up another 110 criminals from different black spots.

A statement issued yesterday by the spokesman said that Mohammed was arrested in Mokoloki village near Ibafo by a detachment of policemen from the Ibafo divisional headquarters who responded to a distress call from the area. "The policemen had while responding to a distress call met about four armed men who had burgled the house and were still robbing the occupants of the said house before they dislodged and arrested one of them." Adejobi stressed that the State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had ordered the Ibafo Divisional Police Officer, DPO in Ibafo to ensure that the fleeing robbers were apprehend. He also ordered that crimes in the area were contained. Mohammed's arrest was, however, coming barely 72 hours after which a Nigerien, Abdulkarim Sallah, was arrested at Ogijo area by policemen attached to the Sagamu Area Command for being in possession of more than 1,000 passport photographs of young boys, a still photograph camera and some forms.

The police said that the suspect could not explain his mission in Nigeria or in Ogijo at the time of his arrest, fearing that the suspect could have been a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect. On the arrest of 110 suspected criminals, Adejobi explained that the Deputy Commissioner, Operations, Akpoebi Agberebi, led the raid in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro, Ota and Abeokuta. "The command worked on the intelligence gathered from the State Intelligence Bureau of the command on dangerous black spots in Ogun, which propelled the raids and eventual led to the arrest of the suspects," he stated. Adejobi added that the raid was a follow up to the command's pledge to sustain its raid of black spots "where bad boys converge to plan and execute their evil acts". He, however, stressed that the commissioner had ordered the area commanders and Divisional Police Officers, DPOs in the affected areas to thoroughly screen the suspects and charge those culpable to court with immediate effect.
