Niger spends N20 bn on road projects

Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger on Sunday in Badeggi town said his administration had since 2007 invested N20 billion in the execution of road projects across the state.

Aliyu disclosed this at the flag-off of the construction of the 38km Badeggi-Bakeko-Katcha road project in Katcha Local Government Area of the state in fulfillment of his campaign promises.

He said the N20 billion was part of the N36 billion infrastructural bond sourced from the capital market by the present administration from 2007 to date.

The governor assured the people of his commitment to completing all on-going development projects before the end of his tenure inspite of dwindling revenue.

Aliyu said more than 15 various road projects were ongoing across the state, adding that they would be completed before the end of the year.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Alhaji Muazu Bawa, said road construction was in line with the administration’s commitment to rural transformation.

Bawa said the road contract was awarded to Messrs Soject Nigeria Limited at the total cost of N2.9 billion, with a completion period of 12 months.

He said the road project would be financed through the N12 billion infrastructural bond sourced from the capital market by the government.

“ It is delightful to note that some other projects under the N9 billion bond have been completed and ready for inauguration,’’ he added. (NAN)
