Kano state Governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and his cabinet on Tuesday shunned President Goodluck Jonathan who visited the state for a Peoples Democratic Party welcome rally for Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
Kwankwaso’s refusal to receive President Jonathan and his entourage to Kano may not be unconnected with the governor’s earlier statement where he said that Kano people will not welcome the President because he has not done anything to better the lot of Nigerians since he assumed leadership of the country.
The governor said he regretted voting for President Jonathan, pointing out that the President has disappointed Nigerians.
“I regretted voting for President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 Presidential Election, as he has done nothing to move the nation forward. Only a few people are enjoying in Nigeria at the expense of the generality of the citizenry,” he said.
But the President fired back at Kwankwaso during the rally, saying the All Progressive Congress chieftain didn’t vote for him, just as he vowed that come 2015, “PDP must recapture Kano.”
He also challenged the governor to account for over N225 billion Local Government funds he received from the Federal Allocation within two years.
The President said, “We read in some of the daily newspapers that the Governor of Kano state, Kwankwaso, said he regretted voting for me. Let me tell my good people of Kano that Kwankwaso did not vote for me or Vice President Namadi Sambo whether in the primaries or the main election.
“We have accommodated a lot, but we talk less. Those of you from Kano in PDP knew what happened that when we entered that Eagle Square; by the time the counting got up to half-way – when it was clear that I was to emerge as the candidate, Kwankwaso left the venue.
“Even the little money my campaign office provided for refreshment and transportation for Kano delegates, Kwankwaso refused to give them that money. ReplyDeleteNow that is the heights of lowness, and he still answers 'His Excellency" what is EXCELLENT in . pocketing the welfare fund for your kinsmen? Even no matter how bad you feel, you have the duty and responsibility as a leader to welcome the president to your domain. Take a cue from Oyo State, it is an APC state but Gov Ajumobi welcomed the president same day to greet the Olubadan. That is what we expect. Kwankwaso has simply opened up his 'bekin ciki' as the Hausa will say in local parlance, an unforgiving spririt like that of OBJ. He need to grow up.

Gov Ajumobi is not in PDP but he still welcomed GEJ who is a sitting president and deserves respect and not personal hate from all the governors weather you are in PDP or APC. That's how we yorubas are brought up, we think with our brains and not with our ass! what Kwakwanso did is a show of shame, open personal hatred, typical of some religion! That's what they preach, hate runs in their blood!

Jonathan's case is the worst and last time i checked it is not in our constitution for the incubent opposition governor to welcome the president, it's not mandatory but freewill. If Kwankwaso can not acct for 225 billion 'naira' but it manisfest in his state! So can d president account for the missing 12 or is it 20 billion 'dollars' NNPC remitance money? Which is worst? Truth b told, Jonathan is the worst president Nigera ever have! What has he done to curb and stop this boko haram insurgent? Nothing except saying same thing and he is the president. That shows he is involved, period.

Can u tell me what the boko harams are fighting for? your guess is as good as mine! and its not possible. The only solution is for this country to split in peace plain and simply! ReplyDeleteI am a northerner but i believed Kwankwaso is never a leader worthy of being proud of. He is doing all these in order to be regarded as champion of the north by those brainwashed northern youths. And his disrespect to president is nothing but underating the will of Allah simply becouse GEJ was a vice president when he Kwankwaso was a Governor. Not knowing that is Allah that give power to whom he wishes. Pls. Kwankwaso stop promoting ethnic and tribal sentiment for one day you may ascribed for same position and you can never win election with only northern vote.

ReplyDeletei was born and brought up in kano, and trust me kwankwaso's administration is nothing but eye service. he has never giving kano people anything reasonable. thats why he was not voted for by indigins in 2003 when shekarau came in. kwankwaso is just a nuisance in kano, and until date has nothing to offer, thats why he does nothing but to do followship (or should i say follow goat) into APC
