Borno sponsors 30 students to Sudan for medical courses

The Borno state government on Tuesday said it would sponsor 30 female students on a five-year MBBS degree programme at the El Razi Medical College, Khartoum, Sudan.
Governor Kashim Shettima said this while receiving the students at the Government House, Maiduguri.
Shettima said the state government had budgeted 1.1 million dollars for the programme.
Her said the government would provide comprehensive sponsorship of the students.
“This include the cost of procuring visa, air tickets, tuition fee, study and up keep allowances, among others.”
Shettima said the gesture would tackle the shortage of doctors in the state.
“When we came to office in 2011, we met only 38 doctors in government employment. So, we raised the figure to 108.
“But the number is still inadequate for the doctors’ need of the state.”
Shettima said the state government had resolved to sponsor the students to provide a lasting solutions to the problem.
The governor said the students were selected from the 27 local government areas, adding, “we are planning for the future because Borno will overcome its current security challenges soon.
“We believe that Borno will emerge stronger from its current challenges.”

ReplyDeleteSo Sudan is now better than Nigeria academically? This $1.1m is it not enough 2 train over 100 students in Nigeria or equip the dilapidated hospitals in that state. We as Nigerians should start holding these criminals accountable b4 they finish us.

That is the quality of leaders in Nigeria.....the way they see the money, the same way they waste it. imagin, Sudan of all places for education, what message is this block head passing to the world, that Sudan education is better than that of Nigeria, see how they sell our dear country without thinking.
ReplyDeleteAm sorry Mr governor. Of all places, Sudan??? There are many reputable and affordable medical schools in Eastern Europe. With a budget of $1.1m, you will still have change left after their course. Are u sure it is Medicine u are sending them to study or Medical terrorism??? I suggest whoever this governor sends to Sudan to study be under surveillance through out their studies. Let us know where Nigeria's problem s coming from. RUBBISH!!!!!!!
