A member of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has said that last Monday’s bomb explosion at Nyanya, Abuja, was an indication that Boko Haram insurgents were every where and could strike anywhere, anytime, without challenge.
Ezeonwuka, a prominent Igbo leader, who spoke to newsmen, yesterday, at Oba, said the incident had gone a long way to show that every Nigerian should be security conscious, adding that it was a warning that members of the Islamist sect must have infilterated the six geo-political zones of the country.
”It is a wake-up call to all security agencies. Nigeria is a country where many people are not security conscious.
“The Abuja bomb blast should be seen as an eye opener. People of the East, West and South should now know that Boko Haram is not limited to Borno State. Terrorist bomb blast may be experienced in any part of Nigeria,” he said.
Ezeonwuka blamed the police for not exhibiting enough intelligence while discharging their duties.
He advocated that the police should apply what he described as use of intelligence, surveillance and patrol to intercept anti-social elements in the society.
He said: “The police are only after what will go into their pockets. We are in a digital era and that should be properly exploited for crime control and prevention.
“It is surprising that people will be kidnapped and the kidnappers do not fly in the air, they will use the roads even for a long distance with their victims without being apprehended. Don’t you see there is need for police urgent reorientation?”
Ezeonwuka said President Goodluck Jonathan should not be solely blamed for the inability to stop the insurgency in the country.
“Despite the fact that the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, every state of the federation has a governor as the chief security officer, the commissioner of police is there, down to area commanders and divisional police officers, DPOs. What are they doing?. Let us face the fact,” the APGA chieftain noted further. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Look at this Igbo man, you (politicians) are the major problem we have in this country and the sole cause of the present situation of insecurity we have. You talk of 'digital era...' and accusing the police of non-performance, what have you (politicians) provided the police to work with? when you budget money to equip the security organizations, some of you will pocket the money and no one is prosecuting or jailing you people. The policemen are not magicians!! Stupid Igboman
ReplyDeletei feel sorry for u, u are so brainless. If u can't c d point he is making den i will advise u to borrow brain n think well before talking next time.
DeleteNo need for insults because you have the social media anonymity. He has made a valid point. Both politicians and police are at fault. Bad pay and not selecting on merit encourages corruption.
DeleteChieftain.., you are absolutely right/
ReplyDeletesecurity more than ever before should be everybody's biz/but instead of our Governors to work effectively with the President on this, most of the times/most of them are usually seeing what he hasn't done at all or done well/
until these orientation changes, we won't go far as a nation/the menace of BH can be stopped within a short time, if every Government (FG/SG/LG & Gov, agencies)takes responsibility to fight it/
"nothing, yes nothing, is impossible"/
