A journalist with Wazobia FM in Port Harcourt, Mr Anthony Akatakpo aka Diplomatic Akasbaba, was Thursday abducted at his residence in Rumuekini area of the state.
The wife, Mrs Candy Akatakpo told media men in Port Harcourt that the kidnappers demanded for ten million naira when they stormed their residence at about 2am, adding that they shot the husband on the leg before they fled with him.
While appealing for his unconditional release Mrs Akatakpo said the kidnappers bundled her husband into his vehicle, a Mitsubishi Endeavour with registration number LSD 871 CM.
Journalists in the state have continued to condemn the abduction, saying is sad that anybody could kidnap a journalist.
” It is sad that anybody could contemplate such. We don’t have money. They should release Akasbaba unconditionally. I beg them to do please.”, Osinachi Samuel pleaded.
Other journalists who also spoke appealed for the immediate and unconditional release of the hostage so that he can attend to his health.
The state Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr Opaka Dokubo also enjoined the kidnappers to release the hostage.” They shot him on the leg.
