President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, has taken a swipe on Nigeria, labeling the country and her citizens as corrupt. He made the remark during his 90th birthday luncheon hosted by the service chiefs and the public commission.
Mugabe said Zimbabweans are now almost behaving like Nigerians who have to be corruptly paid for every service.
“Are we now like Nigeria where you have to reach your pocket to get anything done,” he said. “You see we used to go to Nigeria and every time we went there we had to carry extra cash in our pockets to corruptly pay for everything. You get into a plane in Nigeria and you sit there and the crew keeps dilly dulling without taking off as they wait for you to pay them to fly the plane,” said the president followed by a huge laugh from the delegates attending his birthday bash.
The current corruption rankings in the world rank Zimbabwe’s corruption a lot worse than Nigeria. Nigeria is ranked 163 worst corrupt country in the world while Zimbabwe is an embarrassing 170 third from the bottom.

But is it not true? No need to abuse the messenger. Nigeria is a case study of how not to run a nation so anytime one needs to identify failures in govt, Nigeria is the best case in point
ReplyDeleteYou don't think at all,
DeleteOld man President! Don't u thinks its time to give d new generation chance to rule themselves?
ReplyDeleteRobert Mugabe is a typical African tyrant in the ranks of Idi Amin, Bokassa, Sese Seko, etc. Zimbabwe was much better off under Ian Smith before the so-called black rule ushered in. Black people in all of Africa have shown that we lack the ability to govern. Our leaders are corrupt and worthless. But what the fool is saying about Nigeria is absolutely true. There's no denying it. We have exported corruption to most of the world since that's what we know best to do.
ReplyDeleteWhen the corrupt call you corrupt, it is a serious matter. It is time to change our ways.
ReplyDeleteHe is right... Nigeria is corrupt and the corruption isn't limited to the elite, even the barely useful people at the airport are corrupt. It's an epidemic.
ReplyDeleteNaija corruption started from the womb to every homes......both the kindergaten and the person who does not no his right hand to his left hand are now shouting nigeria is corrup.....lets naija divide
ReplyDeleteAttack is the best form of defence and that's exactly what Robert just did.
ReplyDeletehahaha hehehe nigerian problem needs divine intervention if mugabe can call us corrupt den we are in a deep sh*t. D problem with nigeria is dat we are not seeing corruption as bad, we are seeing it as sharpness and smartness. We don't call a spade a spade anymore. Eg we don't call prostitution prostitution again, we call it runs. N u can c a lady comfortably saying "i b runs babe oh" but she will never say "i b prostitute". We don't call bribery bribery anymore we call it appreciation. We should stop decieving ourselves we are all corrupt but where it is very bad is dat d elders who are supposed to correct d youth are d ones teaching d youth.
ReplyDeleteHe is right bt he jst wnt to use naija as cover he dos nt wnt to say AFRICANS or mention his country n he looked at his atlas n saw d giANT of the continent cos som countries like SA n KENYA are doing good.bt to tink of it nigerians realy are corupt. Give it a logical thought. U n me
ReplyDeleteFear of God is wat we need in dis great country, without that government do it in vain
ReplyDeleteI agree we are corrupt, but if he's clean, let him allow a free and fair elections in his country so that a new person will take over from him and we shall all know if he is clean or not
ReplyDeleteFear of “GOD“ is wat we need in dis great country, without dat government do in vain
ReplyDeleteExcept that Zimbabwe is just more corrupt than NIgeria! And Mugabe is more corrupt than me
ReplyDeleteMugabe is as ungrateful as ever. Those of us old enough remember the years of struggle when Mugabe, Joshua Nkomo and Ndabaningi Sithole always come to Lagos to collect Nigerian money to fund their freedom efforts. Nigerian university students also contributed money apart from the Government. Even Ian Smith could not be this ungrateful. Whether we are corrupt or not, Mugabe is not fit to pronounce the judgement. A fool at ninety is a fool approaching hell fire.
ReplyDeletekettle calling pot black
ReplyDeleteAbeg what is the difference between 163 and 170 that 170 has to be described as embarassing. they are both embarassing and a mockery of the general publics good will.
ReplyDeleteA question of Pot calling Kettle Black
ReplyDeleteNigerians dn't really blame u Old president Mugabe, rather we blame our leaders...Its very shameful unto them for u to insult Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteImagine... Dont blame him, he is being intustigated by old age. He can never be a president in Nigeria, for one day, talk less of, that he will hang on to power for ages. Quite unfortunate, he himself is corruption personified in Zimbabue
