The police on Monday said the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra was behind Saturday’s attack on the Enugu State Government House.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adamu Mohammed, said this during a press briefing in Enugu.
The CP, however, said that contrary to earlier reports, nobody was killed during the incident.
Mohammed said that one of the alleged attackers, Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma, who was shot during the incident, was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Chukwuma is an indigene of Anambra State, the CP said.
He also gave the names of the other suspects arrested as Shedrack Onwuka, Francis Nwokocha and Sunday Okafor, all indigenes of Anambra State.
He said the suspects and others now at large, numbering over 20, “were at the Government House to hoist Biafra flags and place their banners.”
The CP said, “The suspects confessed that they were invited by some people to go to Enugu and hoist Biafra flags. The motive is what we are still trying to find out.”
“The suspects had given the names of their sponsors to the police. While we continue to look for their sponsors, we shall soon charge the arrested suspects to court.”
Mohammed listed items recovered from the suspects to include MASSOB banners, Biafran flags, machetes and one bag containing charms.
The banner read, “The Republic of Biafra, aka, The Tribe of God; Amalgamation Dissolved; Biafra an Ally and Supporter of Israel.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
