Man sentenced to death for stealing N5,520


A motor loader, otherwise known as “Agbero” has been sentenced to death by hanging having been found guilty of robbing his victims of total sum of N5,520, two handsets while armed with cutlass when his gang broke into their apparments.

The 31-year-old convict, Emeka Nweke said to be the only son of the parent was Wednesday sentenced to death by an Asaba high court, which agreed that prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.



Prosecution had told the court that the convicted armed robber with others now at large “robbed one Izuchukwu Okeke and other residents of various sums of cash totaling N5,520 while armed with dangerous weapons at Oduke within the Asaba judicial division on or about the 30th day of September 2012.

Also, another high court in Asaba has sentenced a commercial motorcyclist otherwise known as okada rider, one Ndubuisi Obiora, 26 years to death by hanging for robbery.

The convicted armed robber wept profusely in the open court and threw himself on the ground rolling immediately the judge handed down the death sentence, thus creating a scene.

He was found guilty of robbing passengers travelling on Benin-Asaba highway at gun point.

He was caught red handed at Oko junction area of the highway by the police anti robbery squad on the 18th July 2012.

  2. pls this judgement should be reversed before God's wrath will visit all those that are involve in the ruling of this case. Reason: James Ibori is still alive. Period

  5. This is armed robbery. The amount stolen is insignificant am sure he would have stolen more if there was more to be stolen. These guys are heartless and can even take another person's life for just 1k. The judgement is a good one. The issue of our corrupt politicians is a different ball game.

  6. Shld they be set free cos our stealing politicians have not bn caught? What is bad is bad no matter who does it. Beside, armed robbery is a criminal offence, d amt involved not withstanding. They kill for any amt so they shldn't be spared. This cld help deter others.

This is not for or against the judgement passed on the poor guys but my worry is that why can't capital judgement be passed on the high and mighty that steals billions of dollars to serve as a detterent to others,the reason why our leaders continue to steal is because they can plea bargain and return a very small amount of their loot and go scot free,if death sentence has been passed on one or two of them I'm sure none of them will have the gut to stael again.

  10. All this fools against the judgement I suppose are all arm robbers,if you had the experience of this robbers you will not question the judgement,becos this arm robbers are heartless set of human being and I think it serve them right,they are worst than Boko haram
