Immigration tragedy: Jonathan gives automatic job slots to families of dead job seekers

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed that three employment slots be reserved for the families of those who died during the stampede that occurred during the recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service on Saturday nationwide.

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Wednesday at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting which was devoted to the incident.

He said one of the three beneficiaries must be a lady.

Jonathan also directed that all those who sustained injuries and are currently hospitalised be given automatic employment in the service.

While ordering that the ill-fated exercise be cancelled, the President set up a committee led by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, to conduct a fresh exercise.

The committee has the Comptroller-General of NIS as well as representatives of the Inspector-General of Police and the heads of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Coprs, Nigerian Prisons Service, State Security Service and the Federal Road Safety Commission as members.

  4. THE 1ST & 2ND COMMENTATORS ARE VERY SICK UPSTAIRS. SO SOMEBODY MUST BE INJURED OR DIE IN YOUR FAMILY BEFORE YOU GET A JOB. RUBBISH. QUESTIONS, WILL THE JOB BE A PERMANENT HEREDITARY JOB FOR THE FAMILY OR ANYTHING CAN HAAPEN TOMORROW, WON'T HEADS ROLL E.G ALL THE OGAS INVOLVED, WON'T MONEY BE REFUNDED TO ALL THOSE WHO PAID A THOUSAND NAIRA, IS THIS ALL THAT THE GOVT. WILL DO FOR IT'S CITIZENS, ETC. HOW I WISH BOTH OF YOU CAN DIE SO THAT YOUR FAMILY CAN HAVE A TEMPORARY YEYE JOB. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE DEPARTED SOULS WOULD HAVE AMOUNTED TO IN LIFE. IF TWO OF YOU AND OTHERS WITH SIMILAR COMMENTS ARE WHAT NIGERIA CAN PRODUCE, THEN, NO WONDER WE ARE HAVING THE KINDS OF LEADERS WE ARE HAVING. HOW I WISH THE FAMILY OF THE DECEASED KNOWS YOUR ADDRESS. RUBBISH AUTOMATIC JOB MY FOOT. BLOOD SUCKERS.

    1. wise one , you are the stupidest human to comment here i must confess. you just curse without proffering solution, typical of foolish people. don't you know what compensation means.if that will calm down nerves for a while wouldn't it be nice. you better change your name to stupid one.

    2. Mistake of a name. I baptize you with the name 'stupid one' from today. you are the most stupid person I have come in contact with recently. talking like an idiot, reasoning from your anus. fool.

    3. THOSE REPLIES TO MY COMMENT ARE NOT A SURPRISE. NIGERIANS WILL ALWAYS LINK AVOIDABLE LEADERSHIP ERRORS TO FATE OR NATURE. I RAISED SEVERAL POINTS BUT YOU REFUSED TO ADDRESS THEM. READ MY COMMENT AGAIN AND ADDRESS ISSUED RAISED. WHERE IS THE MONEY COLLECTED, WHO WILL BE AXED FOR THE SHAMEFUL EXCERCISE, ETC. BEFORE YOU TALK NOW, SS/SE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TALK. ANYWAY, I STAND BY MY ARGUMENTS, ONE, WE SHOULD BE PROACTIVE AS A GOVERNMENT, DISCIPLINE OFFICE HOLDERS THAT MESSES UP, DO THINGD RIGHTLY AND APPROPRIATELY, ETC. WHAT OF, IF NO ONE IN MY
FAMILY WANTS A SALARY JOB, WON'T ONE GOVT. CHANGE THE RULES NEXT TIME, ETC. PLS, COMNENT WITH YOUR HEAD AND NOT TOES. ITS HIGH TIME OUR LEADERS SHOULD BE HELD OR HOLD RESPONSIBLE FOR
THEIR ACTIONS. STOP PLAYING TRIBES, RELIGION, ETC WITH PEOPLE'S
LIVES. WE SHOULD STOP COMPARING WRONGS AND FAILURES WITH
LESSER ONES. HEN, DEAD CORPERS WERE NOT COMPENSETED, BUT
DEAD JOB SEEKERS WERE. WHICH IS BETTER. CANT THEIR DEATH BE AVOIDED. VALUE FOR CITIZENS LIVES BIRTH PREVENTIONS AND NOT COMPENSATION. IF THE FAMILY OF THE DECEASE DID NOT GET THE JOB, WILL YOU GO AND FIGHT FOR THEM. HOW MANY GOVT. PROMISES YET UNFULFILL. MAY WE NOT DIE AVOIDABLE DEATHS.

  6. tragic incidences always happen in one way or the other, it can be while at home resting. It is therefore no time to start abusing here, we cannot change the past but can prepare for a better future. I congratulate the president for his decision to cancel the test and grant the families of the deceased automatic placement, he is a good man surrounded by sycophants. May God grant him the ideas he need to take this nation forward.

At least most of us also fell down and was also steped on, its just that we didn't injure outwardly but we fell sick after the exercise and atended my injuries at home myself. What about us? Abeg mr president should still give us some little compesation at least.

    1. Turani or whatever nonsence u call your stupid self. you have always been stupid and stupid would you remain, what if the president have not compensated anyone, nothing would still have happened. The president is a good man take it or leave it. Go hug a transformer if you are pained by this compensation. people still die even without immigration examination and is not the cause of the death on the immigration exam. He cannot be president and then see to everything himself when he has ministers and co. You northerners are too full of hate for anyone who is not a moslem, shame on u and your hate preaching religion. blood suckers!

  11. So another batlle amongst the the unemployed in each family over who gets the Job. What Nigerians Needs is a complete halt to this gross injustisce. I don't have a problem with the compensation. But this should rather be a call for change. Our leaders need to change and put the welfare the pple above every decisions.

  12. Wise one your imagination is dirty, your thought is corrupt and ur reasoning is in doubt, go to bed and sleep again. President has opted for the best and those who died on their way to NYSC camp were never offer any benefit rather thier family take things by fate.

  15. THINK OF RESOLVING THE CAUSE OF THIS. MR. PRESIDENT, THINK OF NIGERIANS HAVING ELECTRICITY FOR AT LEAST 18HRS IN 24HRS. THESE PEOPLE WILL FIND THERESELF SOMETHING ELSE TO DO.. SIMPLE!!

  16. Wat if d deceased family has no any other graduate other dan d one dat died, or non of his siblies is interested in d job or he‘s d only child in d family? Jst imagine. Mind u, we shld have known Labaran Maku wit his white lies, jst go thru his past records speech. They are jst telling lies.

  17. The show of shame that happened during the exercise is a reflection of how sick Nigeria is. Imagine the number of unemployed otherwise wasting away youths; graduates for that matter. The only solution(unconfirmed) is to grant the deceased family jobs. What happened to the remaining multitudes without jobs. the government should think outside the box and do something before they start reaping the result of not catering for their citizenry.

  18. I pity Nigerian with this present rulers ruling them . If you subject the goverment gesture to forensic analysis you will found out that this group of leaders Nigerian have now are grossly bereft of ideas and very incompetence to say the least

  23. GEJ, employ all the graduates in this country or give us money (not loan) to setup any business for ourself. The poverty rate in this country is too high. Meanwhile most of our leaders are busy stealing our money.

  24. If Mr.President meat well for Nigerians and not for those that lost their lives,he should should have instructed the interior minister to returned all the money collected from the applicants.Though, he was there when the money was being collected in the first instance,if he does not has a cut in it.The money should be returned.
