Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has said 520,000 applicants participated in the Nigeria Immigration Service recruitment exercise across the country.
The minister, however, said only 4,556 would be recruited at the end of the exercise, based on the available space.
He said this in Jos, Plateau State capital on Saturday, while monitoring the exercise.
Moro said he learnt that seven people lost their lives at the National Stadium, Abuja, Niger and Lagos states, adding that two of the victims were female and five male.
He said, “The applicants lost their lives due to impatience; they did not follow the laid down procedures spelt out to them before the exercise. Many of them jumped through the fences of affected centres and did not conduct themselves in an orderly manner to make the exercise a smooth one. This caused stampede and made the environment unsecured.”
He stated that the Deputy Comptroller, Immigration Operations and Passport, told him that he cancelled the exercise in Lagos due to the unruly behaviour of applicants.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has said it was “extremely grieved” by the death of young Nigerians during the nationwide exercise. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteWhy has the Minister not been fired for this incompetence and stupidity?
ReplyDeleteAbba moro nt u, ur generation wld be wiped out n forgotten, nothing gud wld come of ur lineage. Dey wld all die like flies or be killed like common thieves, dis is my wish 4 u
ReplyDeleteMr Minister , go and sit down and shut up. You all failed to use your initiative. Why do we have statistics in mathematics ? Is it not for us to the able to plan and make a forecast ? You could have used proper examination bodies such as jamb and waec to conduct the exams in a proper manner. After all during jamb exams we have many thousands writing the exams at the same time without any issue. You and your cohorts lack ideas and don't have any vision to be a leader. I rest my case
ReplyDeleteThe minister should resign and not wait for the president to sack him

ReplyDeleteI disagree. It is not imatience but ieneffctivenes with which the excercise was being conducted! How on earth can u invite 520000 candidates for an opening of 4556 vacancies?!! Why not coinduxct the interview in batches? How possible can u intereview 100000 people in one day? This was a farce designed to justify the N1000 paid by the applicants. Elsewhere the minister would take responsibility and resign or be eased out. Period.
ReplyDeleteTotal rubbish and an irresponsible government. Hw can a test b written in such a place.
ReplyDeletethe process is just lies because 50% of the job is already given out. What happen yesterday is just formality and propaganda. It a stage play for fulfil due process.
i also want to blame Nigeria youth, must we do salary work or federal /state government work. Must we be slave to people. Why do we need free money, pls be inventive and utilised the little you ve and live normal.
To the government, y dnt you try social security or welfare. If these 520,000 youth are paid 25,000 each every month. Alot of them will not b there and alot of them will live comfortably because even alot of the employed youth are nt making that much yet the are smiling. Pls instead of stealing what your tenth generation to come will not finish, pls use it to better the lives of the people of Nigeria now.
You are very stupid for saying impatience, did u organise the exercise well?are other ministry even state govts not coducting such exercise?did we hear of death whenever they do that? All of u are blood sucking officers and poltician. If they were ur children would u say they died of impatience?when the exercise was not organised atall bcos u just did it for formality purpose after u have all shared all the slots among urselves overthere.I was among the applicant to write the test yesterday,u knew u have less than 5,000 vacancies and u sold over 500,000 forms,u are all thieves. All security forces at the centres were beating appilcants with belt and koboko, even civil defence officers brought their security dogs and chacing everybody with them here in Ogun state, and lots of applicants were wounded.God is watching u and he is bringing vengeance on u,ur family and ur generation.
ReplyDeleteI feel ur pain
Delete4,556 to be recruited out of 520,000 candidates. From my simple mathematics here:
ReplyDelete4556/36 =127 candidates per state to be recruited. And 520,000/36 = 14,445 candidates per state shortlisted. What a margin?
So, how come they invited such numbers of candidates when they already know the numbers of candidate to be recruited?
How can you conduct test for 14,445 candidates in a day? No wonder they took them to stadium to conduct test. Very funny.
Why did they sold such numbers of forms? Am very sure that more forms were sold because the given numbers are the screened candidates.
How can our government collects such amount of money from the unemployed youth knowing that they don't have space for them. When they already know the number of space available.
Imagine, if one million candidates obtained the form. Then, 1,000,000 * 1000 naira=1,000,000,000 (one billion naira).
The simple truth is that we have government with no VISION and PLAN. The government is fully responsible for whatever had happened and they should accept it.
The minister should shut his mouth up because his brain should tells him there could never be orderliness in such situation. What a shame Mr minister and whoever is involved
One day the Minister will join them; then they will all know the harm they've all done to this nation.
ReplyDeleteHow can he speak like this? May one day his children be a victim, Amen. Then we will hear his views.... Idiot
This stupid man called minister deserves to die too!!!
ReplyDeleteMr Minister.... Na thunder go fire your mouth. May Amadiora break your neck for making such a careless statement. The best u could have done was to keep quiet or apologise , then resign quietly to show that you have a conscience.
ReplyDeleteGod help us
ReplyDeleteGod save us
ReplyDeleteMr. MORON. u have expose the level of your understanding/I.Q. a proverb in Igbo said that when a child speaks, he exposes his level of IQ. do I blame u. when u were in your airconditioned home, and people where under blazing sun waiting for hours before your inadquet and unprepared staff came
ReplyDeletei was one of the applicants at ph but God will judge
ReplyDeleteU can imagine the kind of stupid and visionless leaders we have. Hw can a minister open his dirty stinking mouth and say dat to d people he leads. Rogues nd fraudsters dats wat dey are. EFCC and ICPC were are u nw or dis is not corruption? U hve d mind to defraud dis jobless youth of their money and stil disrespect dem in death. U and ur generation u face d wrath of God, dat money will bring u nothing but sorrow in ur entire life. May their gentle soul rest in peace
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine such statement coming from a public servant? This is an act of irresponsibility. I don't know what is happening in this world again. I am fed up. How can a reasonable government be selling forms to job applicants. Here in North America, things like this don't happen. You apply for as many jobs as possible and then compete. If you are lucky you get it and if not, you move on. Why sell forms for job recruitment? It's fraud. Mind you, they did it to sell Jonathan that FG is employing, so that they can win 2015 elections. They have forgotten God cannot be deceived. Can you all see the results now? Sentiments aside...I respect and admire president Jonathan only as a man of God. Unfortunately, he is not capable of ruling. A good leader must be feared by bad people. A situation, where subordinates don't care about his boss, I think it's time for the boss to look for another job. Dr. Jonathan may mean well for Nigeria but he is incompetent and not being seriously or sincerely respected. What a shame. May the Almighty God forgive those who have died and grant them paradise. May He comfort the families they left behind. This is a sad moment for us as a country. I am at a loss.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Moro,
ReplyDeleteIf you were asked to address the families of the dead applicants, is this what you would have said? It not only reeks of lack of empathy, but it goes on to show the level of your competence - zero.
How in God's Holy Name would a competent Minister sanction over half a million applicants to attend an apptitude test for which only less than 5,000 candidates are required? And without the necessary logistics and plans in place to cushion over crowding?
What is this Mr. Moro? What sort of inhuman and insensitive approach could this be? Or is there more to this than meets the eyes? Did you have a share in the proceeds? What sum? #250,000,000.00? Or more? Less? Or nothing at all? Enough to sacrifice the lives of our young men and women? To raise the hopes of hundreds of thousands of Nigerian youths only to dash them to the ground?
My dear Mr. Moro, you have failed. Your ministry has failed. Creating avenues for jobs isn't an animalistic process nor should it end in a blood bath if you had done your job, and put a lid on the greed and corruption in your ministry. But rather, in handling my fellow countrymen and women, it was business as usual.
Sir, retract your statements, and offer an appology to Nigerians and condolences to the family of the dead. And for the records, resign, because I am sure President GOODLUCK Jonathan doesn't work with incompetent people.
Sir, in closing, permit me to ask if you have kids?
May the souls of our brothers and sisters, sons, daughters and friends, who died on Saturday rest in peace. Amen.
I stand with APC ds time around. Condolences from d aba moro can't suffice. He has to bow out for d shoddy handling of d exercise that has caused d precious lives of Nigerian youths. I'm not involved nor any relative a victim but my heart bleeds over ds incident. Aba Moro must go with his croonies.
ReplyDeleteAgain, u can be sure that more than half of of d "successful" candidates will come thru d back door nd not on merit or outcome of d tragic exercise.
Jonathan sack Moro Now! And d comptroller too
Aba Moro, u should just resign. Innocent death death of 15 Nigerian youths under ur watch is more than enof for u to go.
ReplyDeleteJonathan, if u have conscience nd want youths votes next yr, sack Aba Moron
ReplyDeleteImpatience????or what did I hear you say???what do expect?when over 300,000 applicants were asked to come to a venue,@same time?u expect patience from them?u shld av reason far and schedule them by batches,,,but am sure if one of your children or relatives ar victims,,,,u won't use this grammar of impatience
ReplyDeleteYou are a foooooool,if you do not have anything to say in this forum, you are better off reading and digesting to other contributors, you are praising GEJ and at the same time critising him, what is your stand.
ReplyDeleteIf it were to be in a civilized society, the Minister of Internal Affairs whose office supervised the aptitude test which caused the deaths of many youths in Nigeria would have resigned his appointment the following day. My advice to him is"Resign now and tender apology." May the souls of those children rest in peace!
