I don’t have accounts or property abroad- Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that he does not own any bank account or property outside the shores of Nigeria.

He made the remark during the swearing-in of the 11 new ministers yesterday.

His words as tweeted by his Special Assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri, @renoomokri, “I am loyal to Nigeria’s economy. I don’t have accounts or property abroad. All my children live and school in Nigeria”

Nigeria former leaders are often accused of stashing stolen money in foreign accounts and owning expensive properties abroad; the recent is the revelation by the United States on Wednesday that ordered a freeze on $458 million in assets stolen by former Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha and his accomplices and hidden in European accounts.

The Justice Department said the corruption proceeds — stashed away in bank accounts in Britain, France and Jersey — were frozen at Washington’s request with the help of local authorities.

  4. Nigerians do not know or value the type of president they have. No president in the history of your country can make this bold declaration even down to your ministers. We are saying this becuase we look from the outside. Support your President and help him to move your country forward.

    2. i don't understand you, anonymous 2:10pm, even your beloved apc chieftain that rule lagos for years with all the hospitals it has, (tinubu) still went abroad for medical treatment. even if we have all the equipment in the world, it will take time before we will get qualified trained surgeons to spearhead some certain operations. so you cant rule out flying abroad for treatment by government official for now!!!

  12. Why didn't you declare your asset when you were asked to do so? As a VP under the late Yar'dua, you declared, but as a President, you declined. I don't believe you, it is only FOOLS and WEAKMINDED IDIOTS that will believe that you, your wife and relatives don't have a foreign account. For me, it is impossible for a Nigerian politician not to have a foreign account. BASTARDS!

  13. Well,we can‘t really believe or doubt ur claims until we make our findings correctly but my only question is, were u a better person or is u nd ur administration free from corruptions for not having a foriegn account or investment? As for me TARAUNI, i personally don‘t see anything wrong if the president or any public office holder in this great country operate a foriegn account or investing in a foriegn land as long as the money used for such purpose is from his “GENIUNE,LEGAl and HARD“ earn money. So, mr president stop making a “FOOL“ of urself thinking u can play with our heads. Nither did Abacha tell NIGERIAN his plans to “THROW AWAY“ our country money to western worlds and the americans when he was in charge, only to find out after his death. The last time ur complain was u don‘t have a “SHOE“nd when we gave u the chance and opportunity to have some for urself, u re now “FORCEFULLY“ taking more than enough just to “WASTE“ exactly as ur “MENTOR“ (Abacha) did . And now u re here again asking us to give u another four yrs so that u can “KILL US ALL and SELL“ the country bcos u re “HEARTLESS and INGRATE“.

  21. It is true as said by one commentator, looting money or running foreign accounts doesn't have to be in the name of the looter, looters often go through proxy who front for them. So, let the President not fool Nigerians for now.
