President Goodluck Jonathan has told state governors who cast aspersion on him and the Federal Government that such action will not help the development of their states.
He said on Tuesday that the best thing for state governors to do was to take their cue from Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State by ensuring cordial relationship with him and the Federal Government.
Jonathan gave the advice while receiving a delegation of Anambra State indigenes who were at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to thank him for the support he gave to Obi, the outgoing governor of the state.
Obi will hand over to the governor-elect, Chief Willie Obiano, on March 17.
He said unlike some unnamed politicians who preferred to fight him, the outgoing Anambra State governor cooperated with his government and played active role in the Economic Management Team.
He said, “Peter Obi worked very hard as a governor, very friendly to the government.
“He is a member of our Economic Management Team and an honorary adviser to the President on Finance and Commerce and he worked very hard, attended all the meetings and made very meaningful contributions.
“Even the day we announced that he might be leaving, the suggestion was that we should still keep him even if he is no longer the governor of Anambra State. That is the relationship we had. I have to thank Governor Peter Obi for that good relationship.
“A number of politicians feel that the best thing to do is to be abusing Mr. President, abusing the Federal Government and so on.
“You are elected to develop your state, I think the best thing is to have good relationship with the centre, whether you have a pin or you don’t have but one day it will come. Wearing boxing gloves, jumping into the boxing ring to face Mr. President does not help the development of any state.”
He promised that he would extend the same hand of friendship he had with Obi to his successor.
Jonathan announced that the ground-breaking of the second Niger Bridge would hold on March 10.
He explained that the event was delayed because of his directive that the project should not start until the finances were worked out.
He said, “On the second Niger Bridge, I remember I said we would make sure that we start that project before Peter Obi steps aside.
“The Finance Minister and the Works Minister must work out details so that if we are going for the ground-breaking ceremony, we know that the work will not stop until the project is completed and God willing that is what it is going to be.
“We have agreed to come on Monday, the 10th of this month. We will quickly do the ground-breaking, I think it is about 11 am on Monday before we rush back to Abuja to inaugurate the National Conference delegates.”
Obi, on his part, confirmed that it would be difficult for any state governor to make any meaningful impact without the support of the Federal Government.
“It will be difficult for any governor to make any meaningful impact without the support of the Federal Government. I have served under three Presidents and I can say the difference. Continue to support the governor-elect. Anambra is your home and we shall continue to stand by you,” the outgoing governor said. What does Mr. Jonathan mean? So in a situation where he is wrong we should all support him? It is most unfortunate that babarians are at the helm of affairs in our dear country that is why things keep going from bad to worse. May God deliver us.
ReplyDeleteI think u misunderstood our President. How can u be fighting with someone and expect help from same person? Criticism has limit and objective criticism is not made by abusing or insulting the government. People must learn to respect their leaders, don't hide under the auspices that this is democracy and make useless uttrances. Nigerians must learn to appreciate their leaders and make objective criticisms when need arises.
DeleteNa you sabi.
ReplyDeleteIf you are not loyal and obedience we go give you yam head to chop.
Amaechi take note, You can never win this fight.
Learn from Governor Orji Uzor Kalu.
We can all see now that you have a very bad upbringing.
What will you teach your boys and your new baby from your illegal wife.
u r nt ciirox oga jonathan
ReplyDeleteThe statement credted to the president most unfortunate in a democracy haba! So it true that you are victimising people of your wife's state because of your disagreement with Amaechi? GEJ think before you talk
ReplyDeleteYou have not come to prove he is wrong unless you have some personal interest. Sometimes fighting the president is an act of hypocrisy so as take away the people's mind from the situation of the state. we have seen it in many preceding governors. Maturity is of the mind.
ReplyDeleteSo does that means when a governor fights or disagree with the president the whole state should suffer so presidency is now run like if u are in good terms with me u will gain from the centre bt if u are in not so good terms u will suffer dts not democracy that was promised to us. GEJ will leave power someday and d governor of his state will not be in good term with the centre and his pple will suffer too. Law of karma.
ReplyDeleteIf u bliv in d law of kama i tink dat is wat amechi is suffering, wen he suspended LGA heads cos dey went 2 Abuja, rememba dn't 4get.
DeleteIdle “TALK“ from a “LAZY,INCONPETENT and UNSERIOUS“ president.
ReplyDeleteThe President has indirectly confirmed he is the one behind the backwardness of some states just because of his unhealthy relationships the chief executives of those states.
ReplyDeleteIt‘s obvious mr president hv notting to offer these country, gej as a president did not gv a dime support to GOVERNOR KWANKWASSO OF KANO STATE yet KWANKWASSO is making a “TREMENDOUS“ progress and achieved far benyond expectations. Mr president, pls stop blaming our “DEAR GOVERNORS“ for ur “LAZINESS,LACK OF CONPETENCE AND IRRESPONSIBLITIES“. Insult or no insult, he who is “COMMITTED AND DETERMINED“ to deliver must surely delivered, he still tinks he can fool us around as he did in d past. What a “TALK-TALK“ president!
ReplyDeleteAm amazed with Amechi's ineptitude and uttrances. Do you people consider his attacks on Jonathan fair? This is only time i have heard the president make somewhat indirect statement towards Amaechi's childish attacks on him. Imagine the reason he gave for attending the centenary. Amaechi a word of wisdom for you. Don't try to sell Rivers to the" Koros". Be wise
ReplyDeleteIt is improper to rain insults on others, especially the president of our country. We need to mature to the extent that we can show/express our displeasure, dissatisfaction and grievances without being insulting.
ReplyDeleteI'm shocked to read this sort of statement came from the head of state of a country!!!
ReplyDeleteI have only one question for that boy Amaechi why did he not show this level of rascality with Odili his former boss? Is it becos he made him who and what he I today and he fells he would practice his English degree on Jonathan. He shud thank his stars that I'm not the President. He was the Speaker under Odili's eight years of wastage and he did not as much as ask Odili question one day is it today that he suddenly discovered himself. Dnt jst grow old Grow up Amaechi.
